  2. He even took a shot at the players who left when things didn’t look good at Chelsea. I will always love Azpi for what he accomplished here. How he helped so many players settle because he spoke different languages and how he gave everything for the badge. I wish him and his family nothing but the best in his next chapter.

  8. You guys are never happy. Goes out and spends - "We got rinsed. Overpaid." Holds firm on price - "We are f*cking done. Penny pinching. Shit owner." Every signing they've made post Tuchel leaving has been of high quality. Complain about the likes of Mudryk all you want, but even he is a great player that just needs time. You guys are acting as if we can't assemble a great team because we missed one player who no one knew about before 3 months ago.

Absolutely gutted we couldn't see it through. Based on what we saw they don't have a chance in hell at the title. Improvement in the team has been good and have the feeling we will trend towards top 4 as the season progresses.

  11. We had a period in the first half of about 25-30 minutes where we played absolutely exceptional football. It was what we were missing last season and really was refreshing to see. Unfortunately, second half we fell back in to what we have come to expect from this Chelsea team, however, I think had we scored that penalty it would've been a different game. I'm not going to dwell on the result and will hold on to that positivity that we saw in the first half, hopefully Poch can unlock that for longer periods of the game and we can kill teams off. I still think he's the right man to lead us forward and have full confidence in him.

  13. Love the meltdown whether us or any other set of fans! Brings the best in us 🙂 Lost on top 4, board are a joke, best pairing with Enzo, end of the world ... we're acting as if we lost out on a prime Messi/Ronaldo/Mbhappe esque player. ONE good season and he is already among the elite 🙂 .... yes he has huge potential just like how we anticipated with Havertz, Mount, Gallagher, Timo, Pulisic, list goes on & on .... but not worth the price that is being paid by Liverpool. And talking about potentials and would be elite players ... to be honest, we lead every other top team in that regards. I believe even if we would have got Caicedo we would have still not made it to Top 5. For us, the real investment this season is on Poch more than anyone else, he needs to be given time and space. Disappointing that we didnt get our player (specially because we made a saga out it) but no regrets now or later. We win some, we lose some!

  14. £110M that is a LOT of money... even more than Enzo.. who we bought not even a year ago, people seem to forget that.. Yes it was a bit frustrating that we were chasing him for months only to lose out, but who would have guessed that somebody would pay more than £90M for him. The board was just trying to get their money's worth and I can see why they choose to hold off on the £100M bid, tbh for me I would have not even got past the £85M mark as I thought that that was a fair and realistic price for him. Fair play to Brighton they got their price. We move on.

  17. He always made that impression on me. he gives his all and is genuinely proud and happy to play for this club. From his introduction video to the first goal and again yesterday. He is clearly not the most mobile and tactically astute defender but we also need his physical presence. From time to time he has performances where he absolutely dominates the opposition striker, which might infer that there is more to come. I suggest he deserves at least till the end of the season to fully acclimatise to the league.

  19. Not mine....but posted on CFCnet Shamelessly stolen from Reddit , I found this very interesting and hope you do. A lot has been said in recent days about FFP and that Chelsea Football Club is breaching the rules or at least in danger of falling into noncompliance. Plenty of our own fans are worried and uneasy about the situation (as well as the salt coming from other clubs' fans (*cough* Liverpool *cough*)) so I decided to write a couple of things about why it is unlikely to be a problem. Financial Fair Play is a set of regulations that has been brought in to stop clubs from spending virtually unlimited amounts of money. Is it successful? Partially, yes. The Saudis cannot take over Newcastle and pump in a billion quid a year just because they want to. On the other hand, it failed to stop big clubs from spending big money. Then again, the idea was never for City and Burnley to have the same 'transfer cap', but to stop clubs being so overstretched financially that they might collapse with a couple of bad decisions. From this year on, the FFP rules have changed. Previously, we were operating on the assumption of maximum allowable loss over any three year period. Now that has changed to a cap on transfers and wages equivalent to a percentage of club revenue. This year it's 90%, next year it will be 80% and from 25/26 in it will be at 70% revenue. What does it mean for Chelsea Football Club? According to Deloitte Football Money League, our revenue has totalled €568.000.000,00 last year. This means that no more than €511 million can be spent on transfer amortisation and wages this season. Next year will be much more problematic. Looking at revenues of clubs that miss out on playing in the Champions League, the revenue drop is consistent at around 10-15%. For my very simple calculations I have assumed a 20% fall. That would mean that our maximum transfer and wage spend for 2024/25 will be around €360 million. So... what is the actual spend? Well, we've all already learnt that spending €100 million on a player doesn't mean that the club accounts are charged with that amount. The transfer fee is divided by contract length, which has been restricted to a maximum of 5 years starting this summer. (It's very important to note that this restriction applies only in UEFA. The Premier League imposed no such regulations.) What does the numbers look like? Not counting in Caicedo as it remains unconfirmed, we spent a total of around €750.000.000,00. It's an astronomical amount, sure, but the yearly financial outlay comes in at slightly above €120.000.000,00. This is the number we're looking at against the max allowable spend. There is also an outstanding €40.000.000,00 from the transfers of Romelu Lukaku (€22.5 pa), Kepa (€11.50 pa) and Chilwell (€6m pa). The total comes in at €160.000.000,00 per annum spent on transfers. At the same time we have drastically reduced our wage bill. In the season 2022/23, we spent €265 million on wages. This year it will come in at around €175 million. Slightly higher than Liverpool, €20 million lower than Arsenal and a whopping €65 million lower than City and United. This means that our total financial outlay on transfers and wages comes in at around €340 million. €150 million below what we can spend this season, but only slightly below what will be available for 2024/25. The biggest problem is Lukaku, which costs us €40 million every single year. Finding a transfer away here is an absolute priority. This however, is before we take any note of the outgoings. We have sold players for a total of €314 million and made a profit of €200.50 million on those transfers. As I have said many times before, selling one or two players per window makes absolutely no sense from an accounting perspective. UEFA rules stipulate that for accounting purposes transfer income is calculated as the highest profit made in the past three seasons. This means that those sales, or the €200.50 million to be exact, will add value to our books for the next *three years*. Another sign of just how well thought out the strategy of Boehly and Eghbali actually is. The new FFP regulations are actually very beneficial for us. Clubs like Newcastle have a simple problem. They have a wealthy owner, but they had very limited revenues in the past few years which means that they can actually spend relatively little. Chelsea on the other hand has been one of the biggest clubs in the world for the past two decades and we have the revenues to prove it. AND this is even with just how badly mismanaged the commercial side was under Abramovich. (For comparison, the sponsorship income of CFC last year was €210 million. This is Spurs/Juventus/Dortmund region. United brought in €310m, Liverpool €275m and City €373m.) Why then, do we negotiate for two months to sign a player for £80 million instead of 100 and end up paying £115m. There are two simple reasons here. Just because we are safe doesn't mean that we should be paying anything and everything. Being safe today doesn't mean being safe tomorrow and it's prudent to be careful. The second, and much worse, is cash in hand. No club in the world (and a handful of companies in general) can generate enough cashflow to spend €750.000.000,00 in cash. We could go to third parties (like we did with Enzo since Benfica wanted cash up front), but that adds extra costs. TLDR - The FFP problems that Chelsea might be facing are way overblown by people who have no clue what the numbers and regulations actually are. At this point there is no real risk of falling into noncompliance with FFP rules. EDIT. As suggested by one of you lovely people below, the sources... Already done or pending final confirmations: Havertz £60M + 5M Kovacic £25M + 5M Koulibaly £17M Mendy £16M Ziyech £8M Loftus-Cheek £15M + 3M Kante contract expired Felix loan expired Zakaria loan expired = £141M initial fees + 13M add-ons So these are the ones already completed or just about to be finalized. In addition to bringing in a lot of income these moves also take around £1.5M a week off the wage bill (£70-80M a year), as well as trim down the squad size by a whole 9 players. Already under negotiations: Mount £55-60M to United Pulisic £10-15M to Milan CHO to somewhere for £10-15M Azpilicueta free transfer to Inter Lukaku to Inter --> ideally a straight transfer or loan with a firm obligation Bubbling under: Maatsen permanent move for £15-20M? Ampadu permanent move for £5-10M? Chalobah maybe sold for £15-20M? Sarr to just about anywhere to get him out Aubameyang to just about anywhere to get him out Pull off all these moves and it could easily end up surpassing £250-300m sales in a single summer transfer window while also getting around 20 players off the books, the vast majority of whom are seriously undesirable to keep. Still a long way to go and lots of deals to conclude but the signs are promising IMO. Once most of the outgoings are done we can finally start focusing on incomings for the rest of the summer.

Disappointed in the likes of Mount and Havertz who seem to be bailing on the club at the first sign of struggle. It's pretty clear that there is a longer term plot at the club to build a younger squad to grow and develop together, and in both circumstances they could have fallen into the bracket of still young and long term, but two of the more experienced players within the group that could have assumed more leadership and direction on the squad. The press briefings from both player's camps that they will not be signing new contracts whilst the club are in the middle of transfer negotiations is very poor in my opinion but unfortunately the way things are nowadays. I'm just glad the club is sticking to its guns with both players to get a valuation deemed acceptable and not take a feeling of being short changed. If we can get anything like £60m upwards for each then I think both will overall represent good deals for the club. On one hand I'd have had no problem keeping either within the squad next season, but on the other hand I don't believe either is a "game changer". They are completely different circumstances to the likes of Salah and De Bruyne who never got the opportunities here before both left. Mount and Havertz have had 4 and 3 years respectively in the Chelsea first team and whilst both have produced moments, neither has been able to find a consistency to their game and as a result, a regular and healthy output of an end product. If either goes on to be a bigger success somewhere else then so be it because I'm unsure if that would happen here. Ultimately both are part of a wider problem at the club in recent years of inconsistency which has prevented us getting anywhere near a title challenge lasting past Xmas.

Rule number one of this window: do not regret anyone who’s leaving. Ever. Remeber how these guys have been letting us down for so long. It is their responsibility that we’ve finished 12th in the league. Reece, Chilwell, Silva, Fofana, Badiashile and Enzo are staying, which is fine. Believe in Poch and fuck all the others.

  32. Haven't been on here for a few weeks but I do think Poch should be afforded some time. I don't think we're playing particularly poor at the moment, and we really should be a few more points better off if we could actually score a goal or two. I can understand the grievances at some of his decisions in personnel but at the very least at present we're very strong defensively. Only City and Liverpool have conceded less goals than us so far, and that side of our game will keep us in matches or help us grind out results over time. It's easy to think letting the handbrake off will suddenly turn us into this free flowing, goal crazy team when that simply won't happen because the whole squad lacks established goal scorers outside of Nkunku. Opening the team up will however leave us significantly more susceptible defensively. When I watch us, it reminds me at present of an international team. A group of talented individuals who are chucked together and expected to perform in sync with one another immediately. There's flashes and periods of promise, but ultimately a frustrating degree of inconsistency. The problem is we're not playing the equivalent of other international teams, and instead much more experienced and drilled teams. From our starting XI against Villa, only Thiago Silva was playing for the club more earlier than last summer. 2 from 15 with Chilwell if you include the subs that came on. That's quite a ridiculous player turnover that won't be afforded the time and patience it requires because of the money spent on doing so. Having that many new players and a new manager put together isn't going to click this quickly. We could very easily have another season of frustration and mid table mediocrity, but at some point the owners, directors, etc are going to have to clench their teeth and put some faith into the decisions they have made. There's clearly been a long term plan in mind with the investment in players made, so there should also be no surprise that long term plan isn't ripping up trees 5 games and 2 months in. They've already made a huge backtrack so early on by dismissing Potter, if they were going to cut Poch short, then it's going to make things incredibly difficult moving forward with regards to the ability to attract the right people to the club. It's easy to forget how much of a banter club Arsenal were for the first 12-18 months under Arteta, and in fairness to the higher ups there, they held on to their beliefs and are in a much better position now as a result. The biggest issue right now for Poch is the lack of experience within that group of players. It's clear when things aren't going well as they are currently, that the players need that touch of experience to calm situations or make decisions in a clinical nature. If we don't get a goal in the first half hour, it just feels that we're simply not scoring today and as a result naturally the opposition grow in confidence and stature themselves. He's looking to the bench to draw inspiration and again, it's littered with young players being burdened with huge responsibility and pressure to come on and change games. I do believe there will be a time or moment when it just clicks because there is a lot of potential and raw talent in the group of players we have. Present Liverpool or City with those chances we had today and they'd be 2 or 3 goals up on Villa and manage the game to victory. We'll have the odd games where it will happen and everything will go in, but unfortunately at present we'll have inconsistencies too.

All I can think about is the PK. If you fail to take such chances, you can't complain about the outcome. We HAVE to buy a proven goalscorer before the window shuts.

  34. I think we are getting ahead of ourselves here. Lavia and Caicedo are alright, but they are still super young and kinda raw with less than 2 full seasons worth of minutes in PL. They may have world class potential but we should not believe the hype and call them world class yet. Also without a goalscorer this is all worth nothing. Top5 is a reasonable goal. Can see us dominating teams in midfield, blitzing them with our pace but when it comes to scoring our attackers will remain profligate and our goalkeeper is not exactly someone who inspires absolute confidence either.

  39. Boehly didn't purchase Lukaku for a record fee when all signs pointed it being a disaster. Boehly didn't ignore the midfield for 4 years. Boehly didn't mess up Rudiger and Christensen's contracts. Boehly wasn't in charge of that disaster 2017 transfer window which set us backwards for years. Boehly was the one responsible for giving extensions to dross like Rahman and Bakayoko and Batshuayi? Lots of things to blame Clearlake for but to pretend it was all sunshine and rainbows under Roman is a lie, especially towards the latter end. Lot of the issues we are seeing now are because of the former regime. I'd keep him for the sole fact Chiwell too has been poor. Hall inexperienced but showed the most promise. Let all three battle it out during preseason. Too many passengers.

The Mount and Havertz deals for me are critical of the long term way in which this club operates. Last summer we let players leave fairly cheap and easily seemingly without much negotiation (Lukaku loan, Werner, Gilmour, Alonso) whilst also getting our pants pulled down on a number of transfer negotiations such as Cucurella and Fofana (I'm personally a big fan of Fofana and I think he'll prove to be a very good player over the long term here but it doesn't change that we got drastically bid up by Leicester to bring him in). This summer it's imperative that we don't show ourselves as a soft touch in the transfer market. We've driven hard bargains with Mount and Havertz so far to sell on terms acceptable for us, not Arsenal and United. We've so far pushed a harder line with Inter on Lukaku. In the example of this Mount deal, if we just rolled over because United have briefed to the media it's their "last" offer, then we're going to struggle in the future. We'll show to buying clubs that we can be easily manipulated and bullied and we'll show to players that want to leave that we'll cave into the pressures. At present this offer is much closer to United's initial bid than it is Chelsea's initial valuation. I get there is risk attached due to his situation a year away from his contract being up, but the Mount deal could have much longer term ramifications for us if we get it wrong and are seen as being pushed around. The other acid test on the horizon will be if we are indeed interested in Caicedo, our negotiations with Brighton to buy him.

Not me pal. I can't wait to see the back of Havertz. Ziyech. Gallagher. KK. Kova and even Mount although with Mount, I can see that one coming back to haunt us. I was watching that doughnut Dean Jones talking on The Football Terrance slating us for selling all of our identity off by selling these players... absolute clown failed to mentioned these players have held the identity of us finishing 12th with their incompetence and have way out stayed their welcome.
    8 points
  44. To me anything under £50M for Havertz is not enough. Not when the likes of Leicester are asking for £40M for Barnes. It doesn't matter how meh Kai has been here, he is still a young full international player.
    8 points
  45. John Terry working with Academy. Just having him at Cobham anywhere around the men’s squad will be a bonus.
    7 points
  46. Even though we are not receiving more than market value for the deadwood, the Saudis are doing us a solid here. Agreeing to these deals early on despite our disadvantageous position of a bloated squad gives us space and time for our own moves. If only we could get them to take Cucu too that would be amazing.
    7 points
  47. It's a difficult one. I think there are a lot more players in the squad who should be shown the door before he is considered, and I think in an all round fitter, more aggressive team which I hope Poch is going to bring, he could well be a great fit. However, if everyone was fit, does he still get in our strongest XI? I think with Nkunku coming in, I'm not so sure. Ultimately though this boils down to being unable to tie him down to a new contract. If the two options are selling him now for £60-70m or lose him for free in a year then it's a no brainer for the club to make that decision.
