I should be sat here fuming and un-happy, I'm not, this was acceptance. This was exactly the performance I was expecting and what we got. This bloke and group of players is just abysmal, the old Chelsea identity is gone, no leaders and nobody with a spine to stand up and be counted. I remember when coming to Stamford Bridge had a fear factor, not now, it feels like teams relish it.

This manager has to go, he's been given loads of money and he has blew this, and to be wiped the floor with by Arsenal away and now City at home says everything.

Sack him now.

He had to say yes to the job. He may never have been given that chance again and you only live once. It could have gone differently. It hasn't it.

In some ways, I can see why Lampard took the job but on the other hand as @Mana said, he could have just said "no" and continued to improve himself first. If he does well enough, then surely the job will come to him at some point. You brought up Steven Gerrard the other day and he's a good example of learning the trade elsewhere first, improve himself as a manager and potentially take over a big club (likely Liverpool after Klopp). Whether Gerrard will become a great manager remains to be seen but at least he is giving himself a platform and building the experience now for the future. The same can't be said about Lampard and if he gets sacked, he will have to go rebuild his career at a smaller club and start from scratch again.

I don't think it's that bad.

Young team, young manager- not ideal. Do you think this team would perform better under Klopp or Pep? If you do then sadly that's the problem FL has :(

A 250 millions recruitment is not exactly what we can call a young team !!! Gooners always found excuses after their board finally spend millions, they claimed for, for replacing Giroud and Ramsey by Aubame and Lacazette, without result. Butt I actually think it would be too easy to be to hard with Lamp. Just  as Wenger did, he made come, the players the base wanted, hype young players with pace and assumed creativity but sometimes, these players can be much more hype than goods. When i read fans, who are wrong so many times, i'm telling myself, we shoud fire them first.

Xavi was smart and told Barca hell no, said he was not ready and that the club was a hot mess.

Very true.. ahhh I just hate seeing Frank in this position. The fairy tail relationship is souring a little because of this and I know our fanbase can be extremely toxic when they want to be.

Frank Lampard on the brink at Chelsea after Manchester City defeat

Frank Lampard’s position as Chelsea manager is under serious threat following Sunday’s 3-1 defeat by Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, Simon Johnson and Liam Twomey can reveal.

Chelsea spent over £200 million on new signings in the summer, but have won just one out of their last six Premier League matches and currently sit a disappointing eighth in the table, level on points with Aston Villa, Southampton and West Ham.

Sources have told The Athletic that Chelsea have started to explore alternative plans with a view to replacing Lampard if the current slump continues, if not sooner.

Where has it gone wrong for Lampard?

Today’s loss to a Manchester City side depleted by COVID-19 sees Chelsea drop to eighth in the Premier League table.

The club invested over £200 million in new signings in the summer, only to win three points fewer than at this same stage of the season last year.

Their total of 26 points from 17 matches is the second-worst of the Roman Abramovich era, with only Jose Mourinho’s disastrous 2015-16 season ranking lower.

What else are the board concerned by?

The Athletic understands the club’s hierarchy are increasingly concerned by recent form and the struggles of summer signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

After a bright start, Werner’s performances have declined sharply. He has now failed to score in his last 12 appearances for Chelsea — his worst scoring drought for more than four years.

Havertz’s struggles since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen have been even more pronounced and the 21-year-old has started the last four Premier League matches on the bench.

Has Lampard lost the dressing room?

He has not lost the dressing room but it is undoubtedly a divided one.

Sources have told The Athletic that tensions between Lampard and a number of individuals in his squad — particularly those who have found themselves outside his group of trusted regular starters — have been growing for some time, and now factor into the board’s negative assessment of the overall health of the situation at Cobham.

Is he a sitting duck?

The Chelsea board have a decision to make in the light of Sunday's comprehensive defeat by Manchester City. They had already started to explore alternative plans with a view to replacing Lampard if the situation does not get better.

Chelsea have always backed their judgement in these situations in the past and will not hesitate to act sooner rather than later this time around if they decide a change is required.

What else do I need to know?

For a comprehensive look at Lampard’s precarious situation — including why his pleas for understanding are now falling on deaf ears at Stamford Bridge — Go Deeper with The Athletic below.

Maybe he thought if didnt take it wouldn't get the chance to again? Who knows. Wasnt the wisest decision giving the circumstances at the time. At all.

Hopefully now he'll take a step back. Rebuild somewhere else and have more then one club under his belt. Needs way way way more experience more jumping in. It might have paid off but so far..it hasn't.

They do.
Lampard needs to be better for sure with his tactics and decision making. But he can't do the work for them and I think it's fair to expect more from a lot of the players.

But it is a crazy season. Ole was terrible, then it was arteta, now ole is amazing and title contenders and arteta has righted the ship so I wouldn't write anything off.

He hasn't lost the dressing room which is important and he can right the ship I believe but there is a lot of work needed. I don't think they will sack him before the end of the season but we will need to start performing the next 5/10 games.

Whether we go into the January window or not though will be interesting. I doubt they'll want to chuck more money at it if they think they're gonna sack him in the spring/summer.

Doesn't seem that way based on City's goal blitz. Did you not see how easily they scored their first and second with barely any opposition from the Chelsea players?

First 10 mins, Chelsea were pressing intensely, and after the first DeBruyne shot, they just caved in. The attitude of the team isn't right and Frank doesn't look like he can fix it.

I mean, who is he going to drop, and who he is he going to bring on in the coming games to fight for him? I think he has rubbed quite a few players the wrong way with his selections. Werner based on his performance from last 2 weeks is undeserving of a start.

Granted, he tried him out at CF which is what a lot of people were clamoring for, but where City the best team for him to play against? Also would you trust a low confidence player against the best defense in the league?

Its a shame., because this isn't want anyone wanted. Everyone knew with an inexperienced manager and team, that we would have bad runs of form on occasion. But this a big slump we are in right now., and close to the midway point of the season. He is walking on thin ice.

We have largely overpaid players like Werner or Kai Havertz. 80 or 90 millions £ for the latter, while he is worth 30$ at best, what a waste of money. Germans keep laughing at the top-off. Same for Werner. Bang average player for mid-table Bundesliga team. Overall, Pathetic performance again today. But Lampard is not a manager for the PL right? Maybe French league 2.

Yes. Many pieces on Lampard mention this detail that he thought that getting the Chelsea job was something he couldn't pass up.
