ZAPHOD2319 4,819
I had a 5 hour energy drink and a monster so I could drive 5 hours home from a lake trip. My heart was pounding this entire game. What a joy to watch. I was pounding the floor when that save was made against Puli's second attempt on goal. It was a great save though. So much fun. USATim 20
My perspective, being a Yank - City controlled the ball and the passing game up until our box. At that stage, our defense stepped up. Did I read it right that City only had two shots on goal? Credit to our D. They definitely out possessed us but we had the better chances - Pulisic himself could have had three tonight. He couldn't generate that speed of pass with his chicken legs. He would have tried a floated ball that would have been cut out by Otamendi. What is this on 0:12? He seems to be getting over that mental block he's been experiencing, he's looked really good since the restart. Top top performance. If only we had a VVDesque CB to complement him... Turn around because after last game I wanted him gone. I'm still in the side with him. I don't know, if we can't upgrade CB this summer I will give him another season and see if he improves. It is why he was good at the beginning and then faded away. It's impossible to sustain that level all season as it requires a lot of stamina as you mentioned. I think this is where Lampard needs to do a good job of rotation next season. Because once Mount stamina is gone, he is woeful. NikkiCFC 8,324
Amazing defensive performance! Rudi and Chris were both great! This may surprise some but no defensive issues with Alonso either. He did much better job against Mahrez than Emerson this season. Even against Villa he was our only defender without big mistakes. Set pieces are still our big problem and since this is the case we need to stop giving stupid fouls. Kante foul for KDB goal was completely unnecessary. Mahrez was going alone on Rudi and Chris in front of him... We had 2 or 3 more situations like this. Offensively we played on counters, this is fine, I like how Frank is flexible in terms of tactics and formation. He is smart and he knows what needs to be done in the future. He mentioned in January transfer window that we lack creativity and that we need more in the final 3rd and this is true. Even today all our best chances came from big City mistakes or something else... Pulisic goal - huge Mendy mistake. Mount big chance - Ederson mistake. Second Pulisic chance - long Chris pass and again City defense mistake. Chance before penalty - Willian solo action (and this happens rarely) Midfielders did not produce anything. I mean just look at the stats. No Chelsea player have more than 6 assists this season. This will change with Ziyech and even Werner. They have 34 assists combined this season. Bright future ahead! That’s what top teams do. Big games are won by the team that makes fewer mistakes. Some people are still hung up on the notion that you need to completely dismantle and steamroll opponents with tiki take shit and have tons of possession to be really superior. The opposite is the case. Bayern Munich, French national team and are three of the best teams in the world and not often they renounce some possession or only punctually press to exploit spaces left behind and ounce in errors even in games were they are favorites. That is just being clever and tactically flexible. Atomiswave, kellzfresh, Muzchap and 3 others
communicate 2,703
Like @NikkiCFC said it was a game of mistakes. City without striker is just dumb, tons of posseseion with 0 threat. They were much better when jesus and silva came on. On our side, Pulisic has been getting numbers which we have been missing when he was gone. Christensen was fantastic, but this is his game, no physical battle, playing as cover cb and he suddenly turn into world beater. Mount pressing is fantastic, the same with willian. Barkley i thought did ok, was surprised with his inclusion, I thought Kovacic for sure. Kante is kante, azpi is azpi. Alonso was the surprise. I was afraid of him vs Mahrez but he did well. Agreed that Mount would be the unsung hero in most of the matches because his work rate off the ball is superb. Christensen actually looked like a world beater. Alonso was more 70-30, there were time when Mahrez was able to easily get oast but overall he was better. Kante was average but good to see him back in the CDM role. The only thing I defer completely is Willian pressing ... he was so out of his element other than his goal (which was superb)... generally he presses a lot but yest most part of the game he was just strolling. I felt Giroud was pressing so much more than him. Maybe he has a niggle or something. Muzchap
coolhead23 1,147
3 points against a team over us in the table ... In our current context with United and Wolves (yes Wolves ... never thought) chasing us for European places, this is a huge result. There are issues but with reinforcements coming in and getting intergrated in our current system next season looks exciting ... Go Blues!!! Popular Post! Johnnyeye 7,510 Posted June 26, 2020 Popular Post! Share Posted June 26, 2020 Im absolutely delighted with the win, 3 huge points, i couldn't watch the game because of time fuse, 3:am for me when the game started, i was snoring already lol. Just finished watching the highlights and i must say i was surprised City used a false 9 system, our starting line up looked solid, it was end to end stuff. Pulisic is just class, top player, that awareness and burst of speed capitalizing on Mendy's mistake and then cooly finishing past Ederson, reminded me a lot of Eden, he could have had a brace today if his effort wasn't cleared off the line by Walker. unfortunately there is nothing much we could have done to stop De Bruyne's equalizing FK goal, it was very good, and we were lucky City didnt go 2-1 up with that Sterling chance that hit the post, other than that we looked really dangerous in attack and were rewarded for that in the end with a penalty, Fernadinho is really a cunt, unsportsmanship behaviour to prevent a clear goal from Tammy, thank God for VAR to award the pen and send off that brazilian cunt, Willian then scored the winner, he looked really solid troughout the game. Well deserved win and great performance from the lads, this win was a must for our top 4 chances. KTBFFH always and keep it up Chelsea Vesper, Blue Armour, Atomiswave and 4 others

Already mentioned it Non pressing most of time even when he could press and lot of time he wasnt making those runs which he usually does... that all the instances, few things does right. LIke said not sure if it was a niggle or a withdrawn role, not sure. Hence for me he was out of his elements.
