Conte's reported interest in the Belgian shouldn't come as a surprise. Back in 2014, before the youngster moved to Everton, the incoming Stamford Bridge boss quit Juventus after he and the club board couldn't come to an agreement on the Bianconeri transfer policy, amid rumours the Italians decided against pursuing Lukaku more strongly, per Ben Jefferson of the Daily Express. Lukaku later admitted Juventus did make an approach, but he chose Everton because it was the perfect place for him to develop, per the Sunday People (h/t Goal's Liam Twomey). http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2630117-chelsea-transfer-news-romelu-lukaku-wanted-by-antonio-conte-latest-rumours mashimaru161

Say Juventus did inquire about him; which is not impossible since Juve are very cheap and opportunistic, I could see them attempting Cuardado like loan-buy deal or whatever. One of the article talks about their pursue even after Conte resigned that summer. Even so you are making a unsubstantiated claim of Conte wanted him at Juventus. Not only that we was also linked with him at the beginning of the season and instead we got Bats. Needless to say Bats was an emanolo signing. To me it's clear Conte wants Lukaku. Unionjack 7,531
EDEN - ROM - MORATA I'd be happy with that! Defenders wouldn't know WTF to do. Give them all the same freedom that Eden has this season and it would be amazing IMHO. With a couple of new technically minded lads that can feed them balls and put them on a bonus for each goal/assist and they would have a field day. ( LOL Maybe not the £143,000 a goal bonus Big Nose got tho) make it higher when each target is achieved, and more scored in Europe. And maybe if they dont hit individual targets take the money back off them! Enough incentive for even Tibo to score.
laura90 556
If our aim is to compete only for PL, then it would be alright signing. But with him leading the attack, our chances of getting at least CL semifinal decrease dramatically. Never liked him and anything he's done at Everton didn't convince me at all. I just hope it's Conte's demand. Leif and Johnnyeye
Pizy 18,897
Doing essentially a straight swap of Costa for Lukaku without also signing an additional striker just doesn't make sense. This is why I'm not worried. We have to be signing more than one forward. It's going to be Lukaku + someone. Going from Costa & Batshuayi to Lukaku & Batshuayi doesn't make us any better. 11Drogba
Eidur the Spider 4,515
I wonder if it'll be Lukaku AND Morata, with Bats going out on loan. Llorente talk started again recently too.
Pizy 18,897
Just now, Eidur the Spider said: I wonder if it'll be Lukaku AND Morata, with Bats going out on loan. Llorente talk started again recently too. That would be fine with me, though Sanchez should still be a priority. Just make it known to Sanchez that we really, really want him to turn his head and then present Arse with a huge offer. If it's impossible then go for Morata instead. Lukaku and Alexis is enough. Chelsea still have Tammy Abraham coming back and Batshuayi is our player, does not have to go anywhere. Big squad is needed if Conte wants to fight on all fronts. Hazard, Lukaku, Alexis, Willian, Pedro, Batshuayi, Tammy Abraham for three forward positions is more than ok. Cesc can play there too. Hazard, Lukaku, Alexis for the big matches. Willian, Pedro, Batshuayi/Abraham as the back-up front three for the FA Cup and EFL matches is something lots of teams would like to have as a back-up plan for the lesser competitions. Last Sicarius 610
Well we should focus on sign Lukaku when Costa will leave. We should pay that money which we will get from Costa sell. No more. We have some more positions to upgrade.
Unionjack 7,531
I'd prefer us to get Lukaku and Sanchez or Morata but I can see Lorente coming in somehow. After some of the comments Conte supposedly said awhile back I reckon Tammy will be coming back in the Solanke role.
Artandur 939
Beginning to fear that we really are going to pay the ridiculous amount of £70-£90 million for him
Clockwork 1,794
The more we are linked with Lukaku and the crazy amount being thrown around, the more I am falling in love wit Costa again honestly. Pls stay. RoyalBlues
Pizy 18,897
We keep saying the fee would be ridiculous, and it is, but when you compare him to what United bought Pogba for it may be a bargain years from now when we look back on it. Pogba doesn't score goals and really doesn't directly create many either. For about the same price we'd be signing a player who's the same age as Pogba but scores a pretty much nailed on 20 goals per season in the PL alone. So yes, £80m+ is crazy, but if he scores us 20+ goals a season for the duration of his contract that'll be worth it. So long as he's not the sole player we depend on for goals I'll be happy with his signing. Stats and RoyalBlues
Leif 6,006
Just because our neighbour splashes £500k on a Lamborghini doesn't mean it's a good deal for us to then go spend £400k on one. Not when we could get a Porsche for £200k which given our unique location & roads, will give us more pleasure, mileage, and sensibility. It's not got the brand coverage Lambo has, but it's superior in every functional way. Let's go get a Porsche striker, not a higher-output-but-works-for-4-years-with-constant-electronic-malfunctions striker - which is what Costa is too. Come doomsday, you'll want a battering-ram 4x4, not a supercar. If Lukaku actually knew how to use his body, he'd be worth considering. But he doesn't. So he's not. We need a striker who does all the basics well, and excels in fortitude. If by chance he can also shoot or head like Drogba, or have the self-belief of Aguero or Neymar, then we're blessed. If not, at least he'll carry himself on his off days, unlike the 1-dimensional headline grabbers we're often linked with. laura90
