Berbatov took about 2 seasons to have one great season before falling back into the shades.

So one great season for Torres will not justify his price tag. If he can produce that hypothetical form that he suppose to do this season over a count of 3 seasons, then we will say money well spent.

Do you remember Drogbas first season at Chelsea? I do, I remember him being through on goal three times in one match and missing all three.

Look how that turned out for us.

I'm backing Nando because of his ability, ability he displayed for the best part of a decade with Athletico and Liverpool. And I'm backing our youth because they deserve the chance to actually play a few games and develope.

Drogba first season saw him score 10 goals in 26 Premier league matches with Chelsea and that was with having a serious muscle pull that kept him out of action or two months and he was still considered a disappointment. Torres has scored 7 goals in 46 Premier League matches for Chelsea. A massive difference.

Whats stopping Cavani from having a similar record. Torres is settled, we now have an excellent supply line including one of the best youngsters i have seen in a while, so i still think we should give fernando another season, with backup from Lukaku and Sturridge, don't think we should spend that much money on another striker. Rather have a cheap RB and maybe a squad striker just in case Romelu Lukaku goes on loan, so we have 3/4 strikers for the long season.

What's stopping Cavani from having a similar record? Quality. It's crazy to spend as much as we spend and build massive depth in midfield only to rely on a striker who has been awful for a year and a half. Yes, he might come good, but what if he doesn't?

Then the shite really hits the fan...

BUT after just watching 3 hours of Chelsea TV - the European highlights 04-07

Sheva and Crespo looked great and scored in the big games along with Drog and Lamps...

I forgot about Geremi - those ears lol, but great passer :)

Torres will be fine and we'll need to rely on smudge and our midfielders to also contribute a few goals :)

Torres was one of the best strikers ever 2 years ago, form is temporary, class is permanent - winning the golden boot is the best thing to happen to him in a while - excited about him this season...

better to get a 'prospect' than a cavani. we have three good strikers. a moses would be good enough to add squad depth. we don't need players on such high wages sitting on the bench. it's unnecessary

He wont be sitting on the bench,he will be winning us titles.

While you have a hopeful view on the first part of the bold text, I am yet to believe anything for your second view.

Our club is just not there to duke it out with nothing but younger players, and inexperienced in their hands.

The last time we did that, our double winning coach got fired.

And yet here we stand again with another double winning coach, trying to do the same thing.....

No need for cavani. Reasons ? He is too expensive. He is overrated. We have fernando. We will only play 1 strike per match, either 4 2 3 1 or 4 3 3. And Torres will have much better supply this season to prove himself, and we have lukaky and sturiege as back ups

Your reason don't do justice when you use the term expensive and overrated in the same line with Fernando.

Torres was one of the best strikers in the world 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 (Last time he was PFA team of the year). We're going into the 2012-2013 season. He wasn't particularly good with Liverpool before we signed him so he's been bad for 2 consecutive years. He might come good, but he might not and I am almost positive that his days as a world-class player are over. It's not just a lack of form, it's a lack of class as he is consistently knocked off the ball by mediocre defenders. It hasn't just been the misses, it's been an overall lack of quality in finishing and positioning.. He might come good with excellent service, but if it takes excellent service for him to score, he's not a particularly good striker. World-class strikers need to create some of their own chances and need to turn half chances into goals.

I am not pushing for Cavani per se although I think he's a fantastic striker, I am just baffled by Chelsea spending enormous amounts of money to fix one of our two biggest problems and zero money to fix the other one.

They're many good strikers that score a lot of goals due to good service and are not exactly "world class"

Very few players actually deserve that tag.
