I just wonder how he’d look in a team without a traditional playmaker at his age. If you dropped 38 year old CR7 in the City team where they’d create 1000 chances for him I still think he’d be incredible. You drop him in our XI with Mount, Sterling, and whoever is on the other wing I think he’d struggle. None of these players are the sort that will feed him service. Likewise our CM’s.

I don't think CR7 is that dependent on a playmaker to be fair. His movement in the box and ability to find the correct spaces are essentially second to none still; while he is still a stone cold finisher. The problem with him in 2022 is he is essentially a Pipo Inzaghi which isn't a type of player you see anymore.

By this, I mean that he only plays in the 18 yard box and is a complete non-entity when the team in without the ball.

Only way he works here is if he accepts that he only starts when we know we will have 65% of the ball and that he'll be a bench option for the rest of the time. However, his ego (which to be fair is a big part of why he is one of the greatest players ever) and desire to continue setting records means he is highly unlikely to do this and be a problem when it happens (see last season at Utd when dropped.)

I am in favour of signing CR7.

Dog help me.

One of the main gripes with Lukaku last season was that he didn't do monkey work off the ball and that compromised our whole pressing system. Wasn't Ronaldo even more useless at that, statistically? What kind of identity are we trying to build if we keep bouncing between different styles to accommodate temporary stopgaps? Especially one like Ronaldo that requires huge attention. Nothing will change with that kind of short-termism, we need to build something sustainable.

Neymar Faces Fraud Trial Just Four Weeks Before World Cup

https://www.thedailybeast.com/brazil-soccer-star-neymar-set-to-stand-trial-just-four-weeks-before-world-cup

Just one month before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar, Brazilian ace Neymar will have to stand trial in Spain to answer allegations of fraud and corruption. The legal row, which has been contested for years, relates to Neymar’s move from Brazilian soccer club Santos to Barcelona in 2013. Investment fund DIS argues it is entitled to 40 percent of Neymar’s transfer fee, and that it ended up getting much less than it was entitled to due to part of the fee being hidden. Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell—both former presidents of Barcelona FC—and Neymar’s parents have also been charged. They all deny the allegations against them. The two-week trial will take place starting Oct. 17, just weeks before Brazil’s first game of the World Cup—a match against Serbia—on Nov. 24.

Anyone know if dan axel zagadou is good ?

Absolute tank and good athlete. But very erratic defender. BVB released him for a reason. So far a Bosman  move for him has not materialised but will probably sign for a French or Italian club. Don’t think he is better than colwill.

Quite a fan of the "ramdam" on Chelsea's interest in Koundé when Tuchel did not want the player.

Nice trick to raise the barça level. Behind the player's agent (Jonathan Kebe), it was Jorge Mendes who was influential in the deal (and the press...)

I'm sure there will be all sorts of conspiracy theories, and there's no doubt the pot is stirred all the time by agents, but it did seem that a lot of things weren't adding up with Kounde.

It was reported early in the window that Tuchel wasn't that keen on Kounde and it was a club target, not his so did seem strange and a surprise we were seemingly going back in for him, especially when Tuchel also suggested his preference was to find a left sided centre back.

The story of the hold up in the deal from Sevilla's end was also that Chelsea had come to the table and whilst verbally agreeing a price, never actually then sent the official written bid in to them, so maybe from our end we weren't as invested as was being suggested. Add to that the questionable deal Sevilla accepted which was a bid apparently lower than ours to a domestic rival. The deal has seemed a bit suspect from the start.

Anyway, that's done now. We move.
