Wonder if zouma will have the same impact that varane had at Madrid in displacing Pepe out.

Varane had a more mature game that allowed him to break through almost seamlessly.

Zouma is all raw potential at this point; he has some amazing physical attributes but based on pre-season he's not close to being the finished product that Varane was at a similar age. And that's fine, he's only 19 and has plenty of time ahead of him. I'm looking forward to seeing him against Bolton if things go to plan.

I really believe Christensen could have a similar kind of impact to Varane in a year or two. He is a quality defender and is brilliant on the ball, if he can just improve his physical condition then we have a potential world-class talent on our hands.

Christensen and Zouma could potentially be our long-term pairing. They're only a year apart in age.

In Indonesia, we had to cancel open training the day before the match because the police couldn’t contain the numbers who had come to the 100,000-seater stadium. On match night, when Jose walked out, there were 85,000 screaming Chelsea fans and Jose realised that Chelsea had changed dramatically.”

Mourinho was the club’s third manager in seven months with Roberto Di Matteo sacked in November 2012 to be replaced by Rafael Benitez, a move which angered the fans.

“We had to make the change,” says Gourlay. “We have to make decisions that are in the best long-term interests of the club. Around that period there weren’t many alternatives. But we knew what our plan was six months down the line. We had to look to the future. You’ve got to look at how to get over the next hurdle.”

So, even as Benitez was appointed, did Chelsea think Mourinho could be tempted back from Real Madrid?

“You’re talking about a manager who was in another job,” says Gourlay. “You have your plan A, plan B, plan C. I don’t like talking about other clubs, about other managers, because it’s disrespectful.”

What Gourlay is happier to talk about is his hope that Mourinho, on a four-year contract, will “stay 10 years. Having the security of Jose is great for me — he knows the club, knows me. Last time he was here, I was chief ­operating officer and we worked well together.

“Jose can deal with the media in a different way from some of the other managers we’ve had. He takes the pressure not only away from the players but also from the club. He’s very good at that and allows us to manage and me in particular to drive the club forward.”

He took a risk starting him, and it backfired. Now we won't be able to play youth players later on, as 1st place may not be guaranteed; no games for Zouma etc.

Drogba's last ever kick for us was the CL winner, THAT'S what our last memory of him should have been.

Fabregas scored 1, which Hazard assisted. Jose decided to start Drogba and only decided to sub him very late in the game. You can't be serious about Remy lol.

Usually after games like this he will set up a lot more cautiously next game. LAst year after Sunderland loss we did it at Arsenal, think it will be the same now. It is OK for him to concede some goals but as long as we score a lot at other end, now it seems that isn't the case it is back to old fashion football.

With our squad I really hope we don't do it though because City as you said are there for the taking. However a point at City isn't that bad really.

Tbf football can be pretty emotive and players can 'step it up' for big occasions. However, the sentimentality surrounding Drogba isn't going to help us and why it's detrimental he's back.
