Arief 40
yeah, he still young and so potential to be a great player. But he need more experience in premier league, so he needs to play against any mediocre team at least as a sub or just loan him so he gonna get more 1st team play. Amblève. 4,995
Snake, I understand what you're saying but we should have given him at least 20 minutes in some shit games. Torres hasn't been "on form" (I don't even think that he is now...) some weeks ago and Lukaku didn't play back then either. Torres is a professional for years now, he should know how to get his confidence up, but Lukaku is a young guy, who gets his confidence boosted by playing some minutes. I am not syaing that he has had his chances, but given the names infront of him and with the inconsistent levels of our performances up until now, i can see why AvB didn't want to rely on the striker that hasn't really embarked on the scene yet.He should have started against Portsmouth to be honest. As for Torres form, at the moment he has been playing better in the three weeks then he has 12 months he has been here.
Nic! 301
After his dad and his manager talked about his situation, it was time for Romelu to speak for himself. I translated the article in English for you guys:Romelu Lukaku guest starred the carsalon in Belgium today, since he's the face of Seat here. He looked back with the press at his first season half at Chelsea. "It hasn't been what I expected", admitted a very honest Lukaku. A loan to a subtop club is no longer off the table."It started really well with my debut against Norwich and also against Fulham in the Carling Cup I played pretty good.", Lukaku starts his defense. "But when it went downhill with the team, it became even more difficult for me. At Chelsea they said that youngsters like me get less chances when the team's in trouble and things don't go so smoothly.""Despite this all, I feel good. I wanted to play and train with the best players in the world and I'm doing that. If you really want to succeed at a topclub, you need to sacrifice a lot. So I'm remaining patient."But Lukaku's patience isn't endless. "If my situation doesn't change in the next six months, I'm going to try to play at a subtop club for a whole year.", he explains."This could be with a club in England or France. There, I could play good for a year and then come back to Chelsea as an all-round pro. Not playing can be pretty frustrating, but I have to think about the team. Imagine I come on and we lose because I gave a wrong pass. I could forget my career at Chelsea!"Before anyone asks. He's not talking about going out on a loan now. He can't, due to FIFA rulings. He will evaluate his situation at the end of the season and then decide if a loan is optimal.Regarding the article. I think the last paragraph is rather interesting. I think AVB is somehow protecting him by not giving him any minutes when the gap is only one goal. Well, I hope that is the reason. So it's time for Chelsea to get a 2-0 lead early on, so players like Lukaku (and other youngsters) can be brought in with less risk. Because if you keep treating Lukaku like this for the next six months, you basically stopped his progression for a whole year. A year lost is expensive for Chelsea in terms of pounds (Lukaku doesn't exactly have a low wage) but even more expensive for Lukaku in terms of experience and growth. eldo 868
The thing is. Torres needs minutes to find form. If nando was on fire, Romelu would get some time.

Blue Armour 4,439
Lukaku too slow? I'm not sure if we are talking about the same player, but I know that Lukaku is fast, very fast. His first touch my not be excellent, I better say poor, but he is PL ready. Betrand and Lukaku should have been given some more minutes so far, as both of them have already played football on the professional level. If they are not playing against sides like the Wolves and Portsmouth, which team should they play against then?Agree with that. Lukaku despite his size is very fast, even faster than Drogba at his peak. If he can learn to turn the defender inside out like Didier does, there will be no stopping him.... francozola 2,040
This young man has a great attitude and personality and if he keeps working hard he will succeed!I just wish that we hadn't played him in the league this season so that he could have gone on loan either immediately after he signed or now in January. What was the point in playing him for a total of... what? 30 minutes and now he's going to practically miss an entire season of football. Sigh. Popular Post! Atholy 1,293 Posted January 16, 2012 Popular Post! Share Posted January 16, 2012 JT praises Lukaku's mentality in interview:Although Romelu Lukaku has not got a lot of chances to play at Chelsea, he can count on the respect of his teammates. In fact, none other than Captain John Terry himself praises our young fellow countryman."Romelu has adapted well", he says to the British press. "Because he was so developed, people pass by the fact he is still very young. On training, he demonstrated an incredible attitude. He is also very difficult to stop: not only he has strength but also great speed and he knows to find the goal. He talks a lot with Torres and Drogba and is extremely eager to learn. He also comes to me and asks where defenders are a having a hard time with. A week later you see in training that he puts these tips into practice."Currently Lukaku is still miles away from an undisputed place in the first team, but according to Terry that’s only a matter of time. "It is important that he can already taste the atmosphere of the big matches, because someday he will be our most important player at the Bridge. At the reserves he already proved his worth with five goals in five matches. We have great respect for him and I have no doubt he will be at Chelsea for a long time. Perhaps he will get his chance now Drogba has left to play at the Africa Cup." Term-X, Madmax, Nic! and 3 others
Atholy 1,293
Wasn't his wish to not loan him out when he arrived at Cfc?Lukaku was so eager to play that he didn't want to be loaned out.I'm afraid now he feels AVB has little confidence in the young players when it comes to 'more difficult' games (which in fact we see almost every weekend these days.. very chelsea unlike!) Unfortunately for Romelu and the other youngsters AVB doesn't dare to bring them in when score is tied or 1 goal difference. So now Romelu feels when he wants to play in the EPL, a loan is the only option!I can only hope AVB does this to protect them, more then having a lack of confidence in them. In case of Lukaku, unless the home crowd decides to express their dissatisfaction for the poor results on the young lad (which I clearly hope NOT!), I don't think this protection is needed. OK he's only 18 years old... but don't forget he is one of Europe's starlets and had a transfer fee of € 18million on his head, a little expensive to be playing in the Chelsea Reserves IMO. On top of that he has proven he can cope with a lot of pressure being the star of the Anderlecht squad at age 17 and scoring week after week in big games => also in Europe!!!The biggest shame is that there was a magic atmosphere around Lukaku and the Bridge/the fans at the beginning of this season. A few good actions would have pushed Romelu to great games... unfortunately now AVB totally let this chance pass by!Without Drogba, Kalou, Sturridge & Anelka there still wasn't a spot in the attack for Lukaku (not even a few minutes)... a very poor decision IMO. One may only hope the board is not that stupid to buy another + €10 million striker this winter to fill up the gap. Lukaku is right there and is ready to grab this opportunity to prove himself. Put him at the reserves team for another six months and you totally stopped an extremely good talent in his development. BTW Same thing with Josh and Bertrand. Ironically the young coach is too afraid to play the young guys , such a shame for a team like Chelsea!
EskWeston 696
Just another example of how difficult it is for a young player to make it at CFC, ideally he would have been given the oppertunity of a good loan move, but with our squad it just isn't possible because we do need him. ja1 1,166
Anyone else see the quotes from him today talking about a loan deal (next season i'd imagine) to either an EPL club or a French club?EDIT:Think Everton would've been a good fit for him this season, maybe even next.Agreed about Everton. Would be good. Not Stoke please, we already know he is strong and tall and that's all Stoke would use. And on his pace Lukaku is not very fast over 5 yards but has a high top speed. Adebayor and Welbeck are the same
