Exactly, it's working because Jose (like with us) is selling the title chance and using the WHU collapse (like he did the 5-3) as a blueprint as to why they need to tighten up. As @Milan pointed out some weeks ago, it's scary to think that they could have been further ahead had they not contrived to throw away a 3-goal lead against West Ham and the referee not given a controversial penalty to Newcastle.
