Magic Lamps 11,692
No last minute buy out clause deals with spanish clubs for players who are unusually short for their position. We have made such bad experiences with this that we should refrain from this business altogether, even if the similarities between the deals end there. milka 3,393
anyway I don't think a new expensive defender should be taken at any cost in the presence of Rudiger, Christensen, Thiago Silva , Azpiluceta and Chalobah . it would certainly be a bonus, but not necessarily as a central striker and maybe midfielder

I think all of them have or will benefit from the change of manager we made. If you look at our starting/strongest XI it was clear that there was only one glaring position that needed strengthening. We could all debate over whether the wing backs are good enough, or another attacking midfielder could be signed, etc, but ultimately a goal scorer always felt like the missing piece for us and we addressed that with a huge investment. United have brought three quality players but did they really need to add to their attack two more players in the area that is strongest in their squad. They're biggest hole is in midfield, and Ole never seems to address it. It's like Wenger back in the day with defenders and keepers, it's a weakness that every man and his dog seem to think is there except him. We could do with another defender now Zouma has been sold, and a fourth centre midfielder but like some have said on here, that's not the easiest sell given the players already here. You also don't know behind the scenes what future transfer plans the club has, or the long term views Tuchel and the club have on a player like Gilmour for example who they may be hoping will benefit from this season on loan and can slot back into the squad next year. If we make more signings they have to be the right ones and not just settling for second best. We've done that before and it has set the club back as a result. If we don't make any more signings then we roll with what we have. I think the addition of Lukaku makes us a stronger prospect regardless of anything else, and a core of our team are still young and will hopefully kick on again this season. It may mean we just retain a couple of players even as backup this year, like Sarr and RLC as an example. We have zero traditional cruncher DMF's on the side. We have only 2 players who can even be called some type of DMF, granted both of them are Ballon d'Or level players atm IF they are healthy, which one now is not. We only have one true CMF, Kova, plus Mount, who often is at AMF or wing. With Kante down, that means we only have 3 acceptable MF players who can play CMF/DMF. Are we so stupid we are going roll with that and then (OMG) actually keep one or more of the 3 dregs? FFS it is not acceptable to have to resort to any of Drinkwater (utter dogshit, insane he is still here), RLC (perma wrecked from the Achilles, I have seen zero that gives me the slightest bit of confidence) or the massive underachiever Barkley. Kepa himself is not unusually short at all, height wise. Plenty of good or great keepers now and in history within 2 to 3 cms either way. What is indeed abnormal are his short ass ARMS. It is a horrid problem far too often. At least his confidence is back.

I am not convinced. I resigned myself to his coming when Trevoh arose. I am sure there are games where Jules would excel in, but I shudder at the thought of him in a back 2 versus EPL bomb o' matic deluges of 'crossing to the beast CF(s)' wars. Thiago Silva (who is still 4 or 5 cm taller anyway) he ain't IMHO.

Pizy 18,909
Just thinking, what happens if the highly unfortunate happens and 2 of our midfielders are injured at the same time? The thought of having to play one of our CB’s there or moving Mount further back is annoying when we could go out and get someone now. Saul, Tchouameni, Camavinga. Someone. Saul on loan with no obligation was the biggest no brainer. I just don’t get why the trigger wasn’t pulled in that one. It’s an absolute no-lose situation for the club. Now we may see him or Camavinga go to to a rival before midnight tomorrow. Vybz Kartel

It'll get done, but knowing Marina she will try and negotiate lower to his market value. It's what she does. It's why we hardly ever buy a player that meets their market value or is under it, it's because the selling clubs know we have money. This is the one downside of having such top class established option/options in one area, no one of any note will come to play squadie, look at all the strife Spurs go through trying to secure a Kane backup/alternative for example.
