It's difficult to compare era's, and even more so when the sort of money is involved nowadays with transfers, wages, revenue, etc.

But I still struggle to look beyond the signings of Robert Fleck, Paul Furlong and Chris Sutton before considering where this Lukaku transfer falls under worst ever signings in my lifetime.

Robert Fleck and Paul Furlong were both club record signings at a time when Chelsea were still establishing themselves as a top division club again and both transfers absolutely bombed. To consider in both cases we'd go from these two to the likes of Mark Hughes, Vialli and Zola over the next couple of years is pretty incredible.

Sutton was an absolute disaster too just at a time when we needed one or two additions to come in and keep the momentum going for another push at the title. It's always a matter of if's and but's in football, but getting Hasselbaink a year earlier than we did instead of Sutton might have been the impetus we needed at the time for one last hurrah with an ageing side but an experienced one that had come so close the year before.

Lukaku has no doubt been a disaster but at the very least there is a pedigree about him as a goal scorer at the highest level. We shouldn't have been naive to sign him after his United stint but his overall CV is more than reasonable and I'd argue at the very least from that above graphic justifies his price tag a lot more than Grealish and Maguire at the very least.

Lukaku is the worst, because the idiots at Chelsea already saw him fail at United just two years ago. Do you know how bad it is to make the same mistake when you had the luxury of that? What is worse he already played at Chelsea, so you had more than enough info.

I always say hindsight is 20/20, it was so obvious that this was going to end in epic failure that is worst part of it.

115m just down the drain, you couldn’t spent your money any worse.

Tchouaméni deal 🇫🇷

▫️ Klopp called him for Liverpool.
▫️ PSG made the best proposal.
▫️ Player only wanted Real Madrid.
▫️ Personal terms agreed with Madrid in Paris, before UCL final.
▫️ Breakthrough in the negotiations between clubs yesterday.
▫️ Done deal with Real Madrid.

The Belgium fans are similar too. They only support Chelsea when there is a Belgium player donning the shirt.. as soon they leave like Eden did... they dissappear only to reappear when Lukaku joined. Strange bunch.

At this point, there is literally no way Romelu stays at Chelsea. The fans will boo him in every game at every touch (all seven of them).

Chelsea have no choice but to rid of him now.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is handing manager Thomas Tuchel full control of transfers.

The Telegraph says Boehly has promised Tuchel full control of transfers.

American investor Boehly is desperate to follow the business model of Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

.

Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have transformed their sides into European powerhouses in recent years.

The duo have built squads based around their playing philosophy, resulting in plenty of silverware.

And Boehly is eager for Chelsea to follow suit under Champions League winner Tuchel.

Giving the German the say over dealings will allow Tuchel to finally build a squad perfectly designed for his possession-based 3-4-3 formation.

Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting Chelsea want one of Lautaro, Skrinar, or Bastoni involved in Lukaku deal.

We should demand either one in exchange.straight swap would be fair enough but Italian clubs take the piss..buy cheap/loan with the parent club contributing to salary and sell as expensive as they can get. They’ll want to keep those and get Lukaku “on the never never” i’d say out of the 3 Skriniar is the one we have the best chance with.but even then it isnt likely to be a swap deal..they’ll want say 80m for Skriniar and to pay peanuts for our current sulky Belgian.

For me, Lukaku has to quite literally put his money where his mouth is.

If he is that desperate to facilitate a move back to Inter then he moves back there under wage terms acceptable to and agreeable with them and that is it. Absolutely no way should we be subsidising his wages in this deal, the sacrifice should be made by him.

My understanding is also that the deal was done in instalments. Not quite sure what the terms of this are and the length of the instalments - there was talk when we got sanctioned that we still owed Inter around £70m. If this year's instalment was say £15-20m then the sensible deal is to negotiate foregoing that payment this year in exchange for loaning him back.

It's important though we try and do what we can to prevent this from being an annual problem. Even if it's at a significant loss, we need to try and build some sort of obligation into the deal whether it's at the end of a year or 2 year loan, just to know we can essentially wipe our hands clean of him.

As it should have always been. One of the two major issues with Roman that held us back from even more success than we got.
