Davies has been a long-term target for Madrid and will imminently enter the final year of his contract with Bayern, limiting what the German giants can realistically get for him in way of a transfer fee. But the threat of him potentially leaving as a free agent in 2025 could force Bayern's hand to sell if no new deal is agreed. Davies and Bayern are believed to have been at an impasse as far as contract negotiations are concerned, with the player seeking a salary befitting his status as one of the best in the world in his position. The club have made their offer, which falls short of what the Davies camp asked for. Madrid seem calm. Relevo writes that their plan is to sign Davies for as little as possible, capitalising of the situation that has so far unfolded, with a potential price range of just €30m to €35m. That is down further from a previous estimation of €40m. They look set to play hard ball over the possible fee to keep it low and have the added advantage of two existing left-backs in Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia they appear prepared to go into 2024/25 with. It means they are not desperate to buy, which could hurt Bayern's negotiating position. Even for a player entering the final year of a contract, an upper limit of €35m seems low for someone of Davies' calibre and reputation. For reference, Transfermarkt currently values him at €50m. A report in Germany in March also suggested Bayern's price tag had been set at €60m. Madrid are not the only club interested in Davies. But, as 90min reported in November, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have been reluctant to put too much into any sort of approach due to the belief that the player has his heart set on a move to the Bernabeu. Davies himself has refused to rule out leaving Bayern, telling reporters after the recent Champions League semi-final second leg in Madrid that he is grateful to the club "whatever happens". I know he's a quality option but and has opportunities to go anywhere but this would make me so happy for next season if we could get fellow Canadian Phonzie

The dude is 25. Not even in his prime yet. He ain’t 30. The meme’s about our ownership only wanting to buy 17 year olds is starting to becoming reality. They are (and should be) mandating a top 4 finish this coming season. And yet they want to give a brand new manager some unproven 20 year striker who will have to hit the ground running? It makes no sense. I don’t want Osimhen as I’ve say for the past couple of weeks but his profile in terms of age and expericend is exactly what we should want. Someone 23-25, proven at a high level, and someone we can be confident in coming and scoring straight away.

More often than not, this includes questionable appointments and signing players who can't even legally drink. Thor 2,817
You guys really buy into these easy media narratives they keep repeating. Vic ain't it, regardless. And the age thing here, is probably how much they want to pay for the transfer fee given how many great years he has. Enzo and Caceido are early 20s, and that investment makes sense as you are getting 10+ good years from them. We are in no way close to becoming a feeder club. kexik and Fernando

You clearly haven't been a fan of Osimhen from the start, but you have yet to propose a viable alternative (Jackson has been uttered by you, which is already something in itself). If Osimhen offered half of what DD did during his first spell, the transfer fee would be a no-brainer in this current climate, with Lukaku going the opposite way. We are selling starters to our rivals, clinching on to the idea of EL football, and we haven't got a WC player in the squad (James & Nkunku are too injury-prone rn to even consider them). Time will tell when Enzo is the first of the big signings to be shipped off. Edited June 1, 2024 by LAM09 kexik

Time will tell when Enzo is the first of the big signings to be shipped off. Signing him for £100m+ on huge wages would be bonkers. The whole point of the setup is that the club should be able to find an Osimhen before he's at Napoli for £125m and wants £300k+ pw. The signing could very feasibly backfire horribly, leaving us crippled again. We have to learn and do better. Personally I think NJ could have a breakout season and become the player we need, and think he deserves the chance. We need to be giving players more of a chance than this before we write them off for a more expensive option. If we go for a striker, I would like to go for a very different profile to NJ to give the manager variety, and certainly be spending max £60m / 150k pw. You could argue only City don't need a no.9 in the PL, but only we are constantly linked with Osimhen for insane money. Wonder why? ulsterchelsea, Fernando and Thor

Nico and VO both scored 17 goals this season. Why are we paying that much for someone? Victor has had 1 good season. 1. O N E. Where in the world would we considering 120 mil a decent transfer for him? Nico literally gave you a better than DD 1st season performance - and you still complain... Which starters are we selling to rivals? Jorgi? He is a bench player at Arsenal. Havertz? Do you want him back? Kovacic? Again - why? He wasn't anything special at City aside from being another cog in a well oiled machine. A stop gap. We came 6th in a pretty miserable season as far as continuity and injuries go. DD had seasons of barely cracking 10 goals and was lauded because of how our team clicked and because we were winning. Jackson would be equally praised if our defenders could defend and our manager set our midfield up correctly from the start of the season. No one wants to wait at all. No one here has the slightest bit of patience. We literally watched a young team get better - and now we want to add more players for 100 mil+ when they themselves are unproven.
