Chelsea cible Wesley Fofana

Encore sur le retour après sa grave blessure lors de la pré-saison, le défenseur de Leicester Wesley Fofana a encore beaucoup de courtisans, et Chelsea semble bien charmé.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen breaks cheekbone, out for around three months

https://theathletic.com/news/napolis-victor-osimhen-breaks-cheekbone-out-for-around-three-months/LD6BoFDwxxtq/

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen breaks cheekbone, out for around three months.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has broken his cheekbone and is expected to be out for around three months.

Osimhen, 22, has been in fine form for high-flying Napoli this season, scoring five goals in 11 Serie A games this season.

He sustained the injury after 55 minutes of Napoli’s 3-2 loss to Inter Milan on Sunday, clashing heads with Milan Skriniar. It was Napoli’s first defeat of the season.

A Napoli statement said: “Victor Osimhen was operated on this morning by Prof. Tartaro, assisted by Dr. Mario Santagata and in the presence of Dr. Canonico, for a reduction and restraint operation of multi-fragmentary and displaced fractures of the malar bone, of the zygomatic arch and pommel, of the floor and lateral wall of the orbit, and of the diastasis of the frontal-zygomatic suture.

“The synthesis of the bone abutments was done with titanium plates and screws.

“The player is fine and will remain under observation for a few days.

“The prognosis is estimated to be around 90 days.”

Osimhen will now likely miss the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which begins on January 9. He has scored 10 goals for the national side, in 18 appearances.

He will also miss Napoli's Europa League game against Leicester City next month. In three appearances in the competition this season, he has already scored four times.

How much of a blow is this for Napoli?

It is a huge blow for Napoli. After a first season interrupted by injury, Osimhen has been the spearhead of Luciano Spalletti’s side in 2021-22 and is Napoli’s top scorer with nine goals in 14 matches in all competitions.

Spalletti has a history of getting the best out of strikers and Osimhen has proved no different, with the Nigerian excelling at the centre of Napoli’s attacking trident.

While there is still much doubt about the future of captain Lorenzo Insigne, Osimhen’s performances have helped Napoli to the summit of Serie A as they have mounted a stern title charge.

It is perhaps no surprise that Napoli lost their first league game of the season with Osimhen absent for the majority of the second half against Inter.

What about Nigeria?

Osimhen has been in similarly excellent form for his country, scoring 10 goals in his 18 appearances.

Five of those goals came in the six qualifying matches for the upcoming AFCON tournament, as Nigeria went unbeaten and topped their group.

Osimhen is also their top scorer in World Cup qualifiers, with four goals in six.

How could he be replaced?

At Napoli, Andrea Petagna was the player called upon to replace Osimhen, but the Italian is a different type of striker to the former Lille man.

Petagna matches Osimhen for height but is far less mobile and more of a target man, and crucially is nowhere near as trusted by Spalletti, who has yet to start him in Serie A this season. The diminutive Dries Mertens has similarly only started one league game this campaign.

Nigeria, meanwhile, have a wealth of attacking options at their disposal and there has been much debate about which strikers should be selected come January.

In Osimhen’s absence, manager Gernot Rohr can call upon Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, who has been in impressive form throughout 2021, or Genk’s Paul Onuachu, scorer of 10 goals in 14 league games in Belgium this season.

Union Berlin’s Taiwo Awoniyi meanwhile has only one Nigeria cap to his name, but has eight Bundesliga goals in 12 appearances.

Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis has been in similarly impressive club form recently with four goals and five assists in 11 Premier League matches this season, but has only been capped three times under Rohr.

And that is without considering Lorient’s Terem Moffi, Nantes’ Moses Simon and Nigeria’s record-appearance holder Ahmed Musa.

Since many want Chiesa for RW role which is unrealistic what about this Goncalves guy?

23 goals last season and 11 goals this season already. Great stats for a winger. Most impressive thing is that he has more games for Sporting with +2 goals than one goal.

Why is signing Chiesa unrealistic?

A number of reports circulating that we are going to make a big offer for him & the uncertainty around his situation should work in our favour.

I am wary of most LIGA NOS players

Chelsea have expressed serious interest in FC Copenhagen’s youth sensation Roony Bardghji, who is also a target for Barcelona, Bayern Munich.

A recent report from the Danish news outlet, BT, has offered a detailed update on the future of Roony Bardghji. The FC Copenhagen youngster has emerged as one of the most sought-after prospects in the Danish Superlig and is now a subject of interest for major clubs across Europe.

It appears Chelsea had sent their head of youth recruitment, Jim Fraser, to Copenhagen earlier this month to keep an eye on Bardghji. They intend to sign the youngster for free before loaning him out to FC Copenhagen for a couple of years. As he is under 18 years old, he can fall under the “homegrown” quota, thus making him a valuable target for the English giants.

Chelsea were believed to be interested in the services of Bardghji during his time at Malmo’s youth academy. However, the winger ended up joining the Copenhagen academy last summer, a move that was worked out wonderfully well for the player, who has recently made his Superlig debut, at the age of just 16.

Indeed, Bardghji was recently given his maiden start in the recent league game against Aarhus GF, with the youngster even producing a Man of the Match display in the 1-1 draw. His explosive style of play has attracted admirers from all over Europe, with many keen on getting their hands on the young Swede, who was born in Kuwait and has Syrian heritage.

Roony Bardghji became historic – the youngest debutant ever in FCK

In addition to Chelsea, Barcelona are also interested in the services of Roony Bardghji. The Catalans are expected to enter the market for quite a few youngsters after the appointment of Xavi, having seen youth talent like Ansu Fati, Gavi, Pedri and Nico Gonzalez succeed at Camp Nou recently.

Speaking of Chelsea, they have lost a few of their academy gems in the summer transfer window, including Lewis Bate, who joined Leeds United. Hence, the addition of a star talent like Roony Bardghji could go a long way in reinforcing their youth department that has already produced a host of quality players in recent years.

Copenhagen, though, have no intention of giving up their talented asset and may offer significant resistance in an effort to keep hold of him for at least a couple of years.

Not sure what to think about this? It would interesting if he started following them all in the span of a few days. But not uncommon for footballers to follow others.

5 of those players there are sponsored by Nike (6 if including the club), just like Chiesa himself. He also followed a bunch of other Nike sponsored athletes like Lewandowski, Dybala and Kimmich.

Scored today. Only 16 years and 2 weeks old

Been brilliant in both matches he has played. Aggressive in his press, great understanding of team mates already, and easily the best on the team to challenge defenders. You never know how such young players are going to develop, but he seems like the real deal.

He also follows Lampard, Alonso... But still just went through his list on insta and apart from Fiorentina and Juventus he only follows Chelsea from clubs. So this is strong indicator that he likes us.

I know you tried before to downplay any rumors with Havertz first and Lukaku last summer so you are doing it again. Hopefully this one also happens 😁

Chiesa has been awful lately and is carrying an injury, hope we stay clear of him.

Allegri keep playing Chiesa out of position and his negative tactic also doesn't help either.

I really hope the rumours are true about Adeyemi.

He'd be the perfect balance of finding a reliable scorer (I still think Kai will turn into one eventually) without compromising the system.

I hope too, we have already spent over £150 millions on striker with werner and lukaku though, I can't see our board spend other this position if one of them don't go and I can't see this happen soon, unfortunately.
