The negativity here is surprisingly astonishing....

that does sound tautological.

Pretty much given up on the legaue. but i am fine if we collect the cups we have to win anyway and maybe add one of the domestic. ending the season with 2 or 3 small trophies would be fine. we need to maintaint our momentum and continue winning finals again. The squad is still young and will get better. It is not a huge number of signings we need. If  the baord feels we can't get the necessary quality i am fine with signing no one at all and wait tille the market is more accomodating. what is frustrating is that there were some quality moves possible and we were not involved.

I love how people are so closed minded to the prospect of our attacking signings improving in their second season but (going by the mass sucking off of United cause of their "great business") also seem convinced Sancho who is signed from the same league is going to smash it straight away.

tbf Sancho is a lot more talented than werner and i expect him to acclimatize quite well with him being English but I can not see ziyech, kai and timo not improving. Kai quite visibly turned a corner with his CL winner IMO, he was our best player at the euros. Timo can't hardly have worse luck he just needs to keep trying and Ziyech, well, he should still be fine as a back up.

But the main problem is that there are areas we nee to improve in where we can not bank on the 2nd season effect...

Okay but on the same token, why are so many people banking on Sancho coming in and smashing it straight away?

Speaking strictly for next season I bet Kai scores more.

How much game time Billy had?

Gallagher or someone else can easily cover that role in the stands.

If anything now with Jorginho and Kante being ballon d'or candidates and Kova doing good they established their place in team even further.

Even if we sign guy from Monaco for example he would struggle to get game time.

I'm not saying that if Billy stayed that we would not have needed a DM, we were still linked with midfielders last summer and in January too. With all due respect Gallagher is average and not on our level.

You're under the impression that we are fine with three midfielders but in a full season, with Club World Cup coming up, we need the luxury to be able to rotate. We only have Kante that's a ball winning midfielder, we need someone with the same skillset as a back up. The reason why Billy didn't get game time is because it's a huge stepdown to use him instead of Jorgi, Kova or Kante, we've only used Billy when they were suspended or injured. A full season is unpredictable and to be honest we were very lucky with injuries in midfield last season, seeing as they weren't injured a lot.

Saying that 3 midfielders is enough for a system that requires 2 midfielders, is crazy. Why? Because we're competing for the League Cup, FA CUP, Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup. That's 5 competitions! Look at what happened to Liverpool, Leicester and many other teams last season..... you need depth especially in a club that competes for so many competitions.

- United scored the 2nd most goals in the league and had the 3rd best conversion rate. They are now adding Sancho who's been a proven goal creator for 3 seasons now.

- We were 13th in goals scored and had the 16th best conversion rate since Tuchel's appointment. We added no one to reinforce our attack/midfield.

This isn't about being 'closed minded'. It is about assessing risk. It isn't being closed minded to think United, based on the statistics/facts above, are in a less riskier situation than we are.

Even if our players all hit form, we still need a classic number 9 and a DM. Most of us are disappointed with the lack of activity, especially after winning the CL. Now is the moment to strengthen our squad.

Here's a question, has there ever been a time where a club that won the league or CL, did nothing in the summer, and continued on to be just as or even more successful the following season?

yup. liverpool 2 years ago. won the cl , made 0 signings, went on to win the league.

And one of those reasons was because Rashford naturally grew from a 10-13 goal a season forward to a 20 plus goal a season forward.

Don't get me wrong this is far from my ideal but I have a lot of faith in this squad (I seem to recall you do to as that was the main reason you wanted Lampard out) and most importantly manager. We're second from his arrival and won the UCL without requiring any real rub of the green.

We may aswell have signed no one in 2009 (Sturridge barely played and Zhirkov was useless) and we went from 3rd to 1st.

Fair enough. Albeit their front three did score 75 goals the season prior so the risk measurement is far and away different from ours.

They also added a goal scoring midfielder and a CF that helped too.

The quality and the ceiling of this squad is tremendous though am also not contented with lack of 1 or 2 quality signings but would rather we sign quality than quantity...
