If you look at my posts before the game then you'll see that I predicted that we'll struggle this game. Why? Because we kept on struggling against Barnsley, Newcastle's and Sheffield's press. Imagine when we face better teams that have a better pressing system? Well we got our answer today.

We did struggle against Barnsley and SHU press but I didn't feel that was a problem today infact our best chance (Alonso early on) came from playing out of it excellently.

The reason we didn't get the points today is because we turned to jelly in the final third and Tuchel got his subs laughably wrong.

The subs were wrong, but we struggled playing out from the back. That is our biggest problem at the moment, including our final third play.

I like Tuchel, but this decision in particular has worried me. Why, on earth, did he put Zouma as the sweeper and not Christensen? Why? What exactly is the reason? You know what you are going to get when you have Zouma partnering Rudiger, but having our worst ball distributor partnering Rudiger in the sweeper role? When Christensen was fit and has had some good performances as the sweeper?

Again, when the managers start making decisions 99% other people can see, no room to defend.

All in all, for not playing overly amazing under TT, still unbeaten. Despite this the progress is still clear to see in the shape, in the way we play with the ball and without it.

As I said in the Southampton game thread, I get the feeling he’s not hugely impressed with the striking options and the levels that Chilwell, Ziyech and Pulisic (fitness) are at yet also. I think the fact you look at the fact that other than Mount today nobody had a real desire to affect the game. That worries me, not so much from a coaching point of view because TT cannot singlehandedly control every player in the final third, but when I look at James, Alonso, CHO,, I just feel they lack a bit of care with their final ball at times. Mount is also guilty of this at times. Once we get that and a CF of real quality, I think we will be a different team completely.

Where did we struggle against the press? Southampton barely pressed us all game. We had excess possession, especially in the first half. The only time we conceded the initiative were in the minutes following Mount's penalty and before Kovacic was subbed off.

We did well to control the game overall, but we were let down by:

1. Poor decision making and lack of invention in final 3'rd (apart from Mount)

2. Zouma playing as sweeper (poor awareness shown for runners behind)

3. Tuchel's reluctance to ditch the 3 CB formation and bring on an additional attacker when we were trying score the second.

Ever since Tuchel got here, the one thing that has dramatically improved is our quality in the first 2/3'rds of our pitch. The players are clearly being well instructed to control the game and deal with pressure. We're playing out from the back a lot better.

But I guess there's only so much a coach can do when dealing with a lack of quality from the players (Rudiger's brain fart for his own goal, Zouma not noticing Minamino and terrible choices in the final third).

100%, not only that but subbing CHO off instead of James didn't make any sense. Starting Tammy was possibly the worst decision of them all.

The idea he thinks CHO will forget what happened today in the morning shows that he is naive.

He may think hes just a kid but one never knows where player power can come from.

Mourinho replaced Matic after 15-20 minutes in Chelsea and Matic still joined him in United later.

The thing is, today was only the first time it went wrong. We have been offensively terrible every game under Tuchel, not create enough chances and do not convert them convincingly. This was bound to happen and will happen again. We really are not very far ahead in our progress and that is why we still of to wait for him to ban the dregs from the starting lineup

Does anyone agree that we may have had the worst transfer window in our history? Questions have to be asked of our scouts and board to be honest. Time will tell though.

I just think most of our transfers were based on big names, instead of what is best for our squad. We bought Werner, who has many weaknesses and can only play a certain way of football. We had bad luck that Ziyech got injured several times already and he now does not get his match sharpness back due to lack of minutes. Kai played in positions he can't play. Chilwell is a very inconsistent player

Silva obviously is a godly transfer, but he came for free 😂

It's such a shame, out of all those transfer I only doubted the Chilwell one. I never thought Timo would be this bad, Ziyech as well.

I was one of the only guys that did not want Timo at Chelsea because of his lack of technique, passing skills and finishing abilities. In Bundesliga, guys like Andre Silva can score 30 goals, but I doubt he is PL material
