With all the inflation , even poor players cost a fortune so being able to outspend other teams isn’t worth shit. Mediocre

Poor players don't cost a fortune, you just have to make the right signings.

You can't say that we "needed" Mudryk/Maduke/Disasi/Cucurella/Lukaku....even Caicedo/Lavia seemed like a bit of overkill for midfield.

That's why we are mid table and Liverpool are fighting for UCL next season....and they've spent their fair share of money as well.   The difference is they got attacking quality in the side, that fella from Leipzig, Gravenberch from Bayern, Gapko, Jota, Nunez.

We blew our money on signings that have zero value.   Other than Enzo, Sterling, Palmer and Gusto (in some games), the rest of the signings have been average at best.

TIM HARKNESS is leaving his role as Chelsea’s Head of Sport Science and Psychology after 14-and-a-half years.

The South African has been one of the great survivors at Stamford Bridge, working under a dozen different managers during a period of considerable change. He joined the club in July 2009 after a chance meeting with Carlo Ancelotti’s former assistant, Bruno Dimichelis.

Mark Beeney leaving Chelsea

So that time has come. After starting work coaching for Chelsea FC on a part time basis in June 2001, Head of Goalkeeping Dept for the U21’s from 2004 and latterly scouting for the Club for the last 16 months, Chelsea have decided my time at the club has come to an end. I have worked with some fantastic people on and off the pitch, and would like to wish them all the very best. I am now looking forward to new challenges and as one door closes another one hopefully will open….

General consensus was that the past 3 windows these owners put their hands in their pockets and signed some genuine potential “world class” players so they deserved some slack despite a lot of criticism from various sections of the fanbase.

Honestly, for me, they’ve stripped the club of what it was under the previous regime and for the worse. The whole plan, from overhauling various departments of the staff, huge amount of signings/departures and general direction they are looking to take the club.

Giving the majority of these young players 7/8 year contracts has allowed some sort of notion to set in that we don’t need to be competitive immediately because we will definitely be competitive in the future. Or thats how it looks from the last 18 months. Not to mention the owners, manager and media constantly driving the bandwagon using words like “project” and “processes” like there is no tomorrow.

After a £1 billion pound spend, to look considerably much worse off than we did 18 months ago, embarrassing isn’t even the word. And it is not sustainable either to spend £1bn and get it so considerably wrong which begs the question, how much more money are these going to need to spend? How much more can we realistically afford to spend if we aren’t anywhere near to where we should be competitively in terms of European football? I’ve said it time and time again, Winstanley and Stewart both have to go, they are at the top of the food chain for footballing operations. Their targets, transfers, negotiating…. out of their depth considerably.

"“We thought Chelsea [was] frankly an asset, a business that was not terribly well managed on the football side, sporting side or promotional side" ~ Behdad Eghbali

Sheer arrogance. I always go back to this quote when the team is in the mud these days.

Eat humble pie.

They spent billion. Will build new stadium. Their heart is on the right place. Yes, they are incompetent but can you blame them for that?

Yes. The billion is tax deductible. They are making a profit from TV revenue, marketing, and borrowing with assets. The Clubs success is secondary, collateral. Roman Abramovich made the club winning as the foremost priority. That's the difference.
