Fernando Torres

Either way we know the strikers we have are not good enough to propel us to domestic and european glory.. we just have to make due whether it be Torres, Ba or Eto'o it would be much more beneficial that we send them good vibes to kick on to at the very least top 3 finish in PL and Semi final appearance in CL... when the summer comes around at least 2 of 3 won't be here any longer and we can go from there

It really is funny, Torres is the one that cost £50m, yet he is the one with the least expected of him.

Eto'o misses chances against Swansea he's shit full stop, Torres misses chances today and he's "getting involved in the game and working hard". Oh and don't even go there with the fans chanting "Torres, Torres" everytime he turns over possession.

For the record i don't rate Eto'o either, but the sheer amount of double standards and excuses made up for this guy are absolutely hilarious.

Understand the context. We bought in Eto'o two days before loaning out Lukaku. Eto'o was bought in from semi-retirement after chasing a fat paycheque to Russia. Neither of these things endear him to fans, and he simply represents a lot of the bad stuff at this club.

Torres has put in some very good shifts this season and scored some very important goals (the first against Palace, the first against Southampton, the winner against City) and yesterday he should've scored but for a fantastic bit of keeping.

What is this thing with people removing context from things?

That may be a point if it started with Eto'o but it's been going on since he came here, Torres gets praised for thing's Sturridge and even Drogba got slaughtered for. You mention the Eto'o-Lukaku thing (which is a fair point) but we practically lost Sturridge due to a last ditch attempt to save face with the Torres deal.

Torres may put in good shifts at times but he also has his lazy days, and when he does he's at Berbatov level. Eto'o has also put in shifts aswell (to the point he has been harassing and pressing goalkeepers) and has also scored vital goals (Cardiff to make it 2-1, Liverpool).

But at the end of the day, neither are good enough and Eto'o will be gone in the summer, hopefully he can take Torres to MLS with him.

Putrid performance but can't complain when he scores like that. Almost forgot he was on the pitch for the majority of the match.

Same here. But in this sense it was classic Torres, he has often been described as a striker who can disappear in the match and then pop up in the dying minutes and score. He did just that and when he scores I don't complain.

Average for most of the game and did work pretty hard pressing defenders.. Just happy he got the goal .. now kick on Nando if he can play this poor and keep scoring and we get the wins I have no issues with him... Fair play to you sir!

In a way I so want him to do well, and not only because we are stuck with him, but it could potentially be a great story if he overcomes whatever problems he has. It even looks like he's improved his speed and pace recently, he is running, he is trying. And should finally take confidence in the fact that he is scoring. But he's just so shocking at times.

And I wasn't the only one noticing in a match thread that sometimes AMs look like they are avoiding passing the ball to him. That's just a bit worrying.

I think he actually notices the players don't seem to like him anymore, the way he celebrate the goal is a bit muted imo. Usually it would be a important goal to kill off the game he should at least run to the crowd to the celebrate but now he just seems emotionless, scoring or not he couldn't careless anymore.

I don't think it has anything to do with other players, more like general lack of self-belief. Something like you tell someone 10000 times that he is sh*t and he'll finally start believing that he is sh*t.

Not that it is completely unwarranted, sadly. But Mourinho is doing a clever thing praising him at every opportunity.
