There is a lot more defending and tracking back in Chelsea pivot tthan in Barca's midfield. It is the same reason I don't want the club signing Modric as well. Great players but if we sign Thiago, we need to sign a new DM.

Romeu should be given a chance and I think we need a new DM even if we dont buy modric/thiago!

If we wanna dominate the opposition's midfield, we need a new DM/CM.

I just want a midfielder that doesn't mind lunging into the odd rough challenge...someone that is physical.

if Romeu can regain the confidence he had under AvB...he'll be the perfect squad midfielder.

He can be a lot more than a squad midfielder! But back on topic we should really try to sign him cant understand if we dont..

Barca fans think Thiago as next Iniesta. Not double pivot or deep playmaker like Xavi, buf offensive flair midfielder who can also play in several positions, but is best as offensive player in 4:3:3 ala Lamps or Iniesta.

THerefore he is not needed here to sit on bench (not for 18mio at least). And if he makes it here he will return to barca and do a "fabregas".

Not the Barcelona fans I know. Most think he's Xavi's heir.

He mostly comes on for Xavi or starts ahead of him.

Cesc-Xavi, Thiago-Iniesta as I know. Thiago just comes on for Xavi due to fact that Xavi is now older and cant play full 90mins every match for whole season.

How do you know he would go back? Oh yeah, you dont.

To make it clear, Thiago has never really been at piece with barca, he almost left a few years ago as his father didnt really see barcelona with a big intent on him. If he leaves he prob wont return lol.

I think one of either fabregas or thiago if not both will leave barca, rumors from RMC say that real madrid have been in talks yesterday with his father, but i havent heard supporting details.

If you bring him to chelsea he would be a superb signing, for anyone actually, hes very talented.

EDIT: Sorry, it was not RMC it was RAC1

I could see madrid pulling for him, its always nice for the two el classico clubs to throw punches at each other. Barca took neymar while madrid pulls of the figo of this generation.

  • 3 weeks later...

18m release clause will expire soon, think he will leave next week or two unless he go on holiday but then the clause would be off and Barca would demand at least £30m imo. Shame we don't need him, really could use him here.

He's a central midfielder. We could definitely use him.

He'll probably be playing next to Carrick next season. :(

Naaa he is more attack minded though, we need some defense minded player like De Rossi, Kondogbia or someone like that.

His great dribbling skills would be wasted in a deep position but really not many clubs who'd go for him in my eyes have a space for him in an attacking midfield role. At United he'd be a central midfielder, here he'd more than likely be a deep central player, I couldn't see him fitting in City's system unless Manuel implements a 4-2-2-2 sort of formation like he's done in the past... maybe AC Milan (who are interested I believe) could offer him that position.

Stats vs. Italy U21's earlier:

Total Shots: 4

Goals: 3

Touches: 99

Successful Dribbles: 3

Tackles: 2

Pass Accuracy: 94%

Key Passes: 2

This was in a central midfield role. Against a very solid Italy side. I want to clap but my hands are sore.
