They had very nice squad back then with Cabaye, Debuchy, Tiote, Ba,...they turned into shit very fast somehow though. I remember sometime ago, they were serious contenders for top 4. Then they renamed their stadium into sports direct arena and been average since then.Certainly prefer them over Burnley, Qpr, Hull because newvastle can atleast buy few more players and improve quality of PL. Also I agree with the sentiments above, my hatred is for the player not the man. It's mostly down to the media wankfest. He is the blue-eyed boy ever since Andy Gray would refer to him as 'Stevie' on commentary. This send off is beyond over the top and just makes sky look daft. I also think a lot of my hatred is down to how he was portrayed in his pomp compared to Lampard, Lamps had to work and score and win things for his praise (albeit small compared to Stevie) whereas Gerrard has just become this God-like figure in British football with no real basis other than that he's a club man. He did no better than Lampard imo (apart from not going to Man City on loan- couldn't resist.), but he's always been held in higher regard, something that never sat right with me as a blue, or even as a football fan in general.
