Edinson Cavani

Chelsea have had a £40m bid for Cavani rejected. Also offered one player in part-ex: not Torres or Ramires. Napoli want £53m, nothing less.

That bid was made in the last 24, maybe 36 hours. As of about 9pm, there had been no subsequent offer.

@AGT79 the player's Courtois. Trying to do a contact a favour, but Spanish radio rendered it pointless.

So Chelsea offered Courtois?

I really thought he was gonna be our goalkeeper for the next decade...

Yes, still, he is.

Maybe we offered Courtois on loan to Napoli.

Not bad, if you ask me. He could gain new experience in Italy. Rafa will be happy to have Courtois in his first season. We could get one of the best striker in the world. Everybody happy. :)

You havent counter argumented nothing of my points though...

1. Many rumors allude to anything the writer wants it to, there is not one single reliable source stating anything!

2. Laurentiis can say whatever he wants for the media and fans, what matters is that behind close doors the talk is different. Every major business is like this, just watch Arbitrage for you to comprehend...

3. Does any of Mario Gomez, Edin Dzeko, etc will cost less than 14mi? Will any of them go to Napoli?

4. Napoli will not end up with more money if they do businees seperately. Getting £54mi for Cavani and buying another striker will not make them have more than £40mi in the end. So tell me how can this deal be idiotic

There are many sources linking strikers to Napoli. Torres is just one of them and definitely, Laurentiis will not have him top of the list.

Gomez has been heavily linked at around 15mil.

I will repeat this again, every deal has its variables and one involving Fernando Torres is just another one. There is nothing absurd in it! ;)

we've had this discussion already... You will say Torres to Napoli is feasible. I will come up with different ways it is not and then we will leave it.

Few days later, I quote a random post of yours on this thread and we rinse and repeat. You can say that Torres to Napoli is nothing absurd but no need to call it nonsense etc when I don't agree with your opinion. Torres is surely not better than Dzeko or Gomez and Laurentiis definitely knows that.

I will be happy if this deal does go through and it does make sense for all parties but only if Napoli are short of options. Big IF given that Dzeko, Gomez are all possible moves

Apparently local media in Naples saying this player offered in p/x is Marko Marin, not Courtois.

Pleasantly surprised that this is gathering pace now. Which player(s) would you put in the Cavani deal?

I'd go with Essien, Torres,

& Courtois on loan - he's going anyway, might as well sweeten this deal in the process

Here's the latest on the Edinson Cavani situation. The Mirror says Napoli have rejected a Chelsea bid just shy of £50million for the striker after earlier turning down a cash plus Fernando Torres deal. Cavani has a £53million buyout clause and it appears the Italians are holding out for that fee. We will see if Jose Mourinho comes back with an improved offer. (Sky Sports)

how can you compare cavani and torres? torres was sewage the season we brought him and cavani would be signed in the summer so plenty of time to settle in , torres in january so he had to produce straight away and he just collapsed.

How can I compare them?

  • Fernando Torres - £50 million
  • Edinson Cavani - £53 million

There's your comparison; the price-tag.

Every time Torres has looked even close to a half-decent player for us, the weight of expectation has absolutely crippled him.

If Cavani comes in and scores 15 goals next season, and not the 35-45 everyone will expect, the exact same will happen. The media will want him to fail before the ink even dries on the contract.

Comparing Cavani to Torres? Now THAT is absurd. Cavani is in his prime with no injury problems. We bought Torres during his decline after crippling injuries that have left him a shell of a player. Also as Lucio said, Cavani is far stronger mentally.

Edin Dzeko/Mario Gomez at £15m >>>>>> Cavani at £55 million, or whatever his fee is.

Absolutely absurd money. Why not just buy safe? Have we not learned from Shevchenko/Torres?!

That's true but on the other hand buying squad players like Dzeko and Gomez on the cheap doesn't show too much ambition IMO. The idea behind the big money signings is to make those players the pinpoint of the certain area of the field - as it's the case with Cavani. Sure those transfers will always bear some risk, but it's better than buying another striker like Ba, which won't solve anything.

Highly doubt city would sell to us let alone at 15 million
