Quote from Recafe. He was a pressing machine in the game, but they are starting to question his creativity on the ball. 😂

“Mounts found the United bug of missing a sitter every time he plays.”

Enzo has been good on the ball as you’d expect but clearly isn’t up to pace defensively yet. A couple of times Newcastle players just ran past him quite easily. Embarrassing defending from Cucu aside, that’s the sort of move that should’ve been cut out in midfield before it even reached him. Caicedo or a proper DM would’ve dealt with that easily.

Anyways, lots of positives there. But what I would really like to start seeing is more composed, deliberate build up in possession. We look great in the counter but not so much at building. Both Brighton and Newcastle in each first half have used the ball better than we have. Lots of passing moves and combinations.

Hope we can put it down to a bunch of new players, new manager, and new system. But we need some serious training hours to get better in possession.

We really need a quality DM before before the season starts.

Don't care who. Or what price. Need at least one.

Apart from Jackson goal we were close to score with Gallagher and Chilwell nice shots but Pope was amazing. Their goal is ridiculous tho. Not only Cucurella but look at 1:46 how Gordon receives the ball and going past Casadei and Enzo like they are invisible. Every manager must be horrified with this. Not acceptable.

My thoughts on last night

A reality check can’t hurt. There are good passages and streaks were we just lose it. Inexperienced team shows

Cucu is just shambolic in this form. His positioning is awful. He seems to have the right attitude but his ability as a footballer both technically and tactically is just horrid.

Pope showed that even a decent goalkeeper can make a difference compared to an average one like Kepa. No idea why we never went in for the former when he was available for peanuts. He seems alright for a top 4 side.

Not sure about maatsen. He clearly is not a LW and did ok as LB before.

It seems, Poch has yet to figure how to use Nkunku and Jackson together. If he wants nkunku to play as no 10 he is on the wrong track. He is not a midfielder. If they play together it is more a 4-2-2-2 than a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. If there ever was a time to play with two strikers again it is now. Give Enzo a proper partner and they can dominate midfield even as a duo.
