The Next Manager?

I do think if we get this summer right (and in that I mean the managerial appointment, shipping out the squad surplus and adding a couple of key additions), top 4 is right there for the taking to jump straight back into it next year and this weekend has only strengthened my feelings on this.

I think Arsenal and Newcastle will both find it much harder with Champions League football (assuming Newcastle get it) and the increased schedule. I know Arsenal were in the Europa this season but they won't be able to rotate and treat the Champions League in the same way. United are the best of a bad bunch this season in my opinion going for top 4. Liverpool could well improve, really depends on their recruitment this summer as some key players are starting to get older. Spurs are Spurs and could be in dire straits if Kane leaves.

I think we have second/third/fourth best squad in the league. Considering Chelsea's lack of European football next season plus actually having one of the best squads in the league, I think it's a must to challenge straight for top 4. It wouldn't be surprising either.

I really hope that the next manager is the right one. Right mindset, right approach etc. He'll get so much time for training sessions that bad choice would be criminal. But I'm so deflated off this season that for me any manager has the potential to be walking disaster for these players.

Fuck me have we not sorted this deal for Poch yet? What are they waiting for?

Christmas?

We sacked Potter almost 5 weeks ago…. I get the whole getting it right approach but nearly 5 weeks now and Poch has been the favourite for at least 3 weeks - what are they waiting for?

I know their saying search to end or working on contracts now but honestly its taken an absolute age.

Noises seem to have cranked up again over this weekend and would suggest completion is imminent.

I've partly wondered whether a commitment from both parties was actually waiting on Chelsea to confirm themselves 100% safe from being relegated, despite it always being extremely unlikely to happen.

It would be good to draw a line under this saga now. Like you mentioned, I'm glad they've taken their time with this appointment and hopefully that due diligence pays off. However it has seemed like being Poch's for a while now. It'll be good to get everything completed so he can start planning pre season, discussing transfer strategy with the football directors, etc - any small margins to try and hit the ground running.

He's in London with his family according to photos that surfaced on social media. We should be getting confirmation this week

Think Poch still lives in London place called Hadley Wood can't see him making that commute from there to Cobham would be a nightmare. Think he's signed and wants to quite rightly have anything to do with this shitshow of a season especially with City coming up.

Which begs the question will Lampard get another job in the PL can't see it but someone like QPR or Southampton might take a punt if he fucks that up that's his managerial career is finished and he'll end up in one of the shit leagues in Europe like Greece or Belgium or back to the BT studio where like most pundits Gary Neville etc they talk the talk but when it comes down to managing well you know the rest.

Really? A manager as structured as Poch wants to have Kante protect the back 4 when he had disciplined CMs at both Saints and Spurs?

Stop the cap.

I can believe he wants Kante. I can believe he wants a back four. The rest is just words to stretch the article for clicks.

Hopefully. Can't believe its 2023 and there are still people, journalists no doubt, that keep spewing the myth Kante is some holding midfielder. Bloke is a right winger nowadays with the amount of roaming he does.

There are a lot of journalists using phrases like manager in waiting. If he really is having such an impact on decisions being made by the club, go ahead and close the deal and announce it.

"Chelsea want to make the best choice, and they’re taking their time; nothing is signed or done yet." - Fabrizio talking nonsesne. Chelsea have already made their choice and it's Pochettino. The reason why this is dragging is that they still haven't been able to find an agreement on some clauses, I suppose. Problem is that, if they still won't be able to, a lot of time has been lost. Just like last season, because of the takeover.

It has to be Poch, otherwise we'll be up for yet another chaotic pre-season and, probably, season.

'Taking their time to make the best choice'

The way this is worded makes it look like we have a thousand other excellent options waiting in line.

Ridiculous statement.

Poch isn't stupid, he will know what a shit show we are and will be dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's to make sure every word in the contract is correct.

Agreed, he's in a position where he knows he's clearly the first choice and where we're in no immediate rush to appoint ourselves, it gives him the opportunity to effectively interview us as well and make sure everything's compatible and any little bits of influence in decisions to try and eek out now before he's signed on.

I don't mind that at all. We ultimately need someone who is going to work with the structure being put in place, but we also need someone with a strong enough personality to come in and stamp their authority and influence on this club.

There are other options available, doesn't have to be Poch.

I personally can't wait for the club to announce Conte's return!   If we were that desperate to get Lampard back for a farewell tour....then nothing is off limits.
