Tomo 21,751
He won't be anywhere near as bad as you know who but Auba would be another case of just looking at the top line without factoring in stylistical fit. For now it's effectively £25-30m + Colwill which seems pretty reasonable comparing where both players are currently at. I also believe he is being bought with the same view to Reece - he's predominantly a wing back that can play on the side in a back 3. Height isn't ideal but it's not the be all as he proved last season playing a number of times in the back 3 at Brighton. He was excellent against us at the Bridge in that position. His defensive awareness and positioning seem to be very good which will help him to some degree to mask any height issues. But the predominant position in my opinion will be left wing back competing with Chilwell. Chilwell hasn't played a huge amount in pre season and depending on when moves go through, I'd actually be more confident Alonso starting over Chilwell against Everton. It could take him quite a while to fully recover from his injury and regain his confidence. With that being said, would we rather Alonso or Emerson for a sustained period in that position? If we're talking the best left back/wing backs on the market who are realistically attainable, Cucurella has to be high on that list this summer, hence why he was City's main target in the area. It's clear that Tuchel has his eye on some players with Premier League experience which does unfortunately bump the price up a bit but also should give us confidence of a player that has performed very well last season in the league for a possession based side. I think it's a good signing, and an intelligent one that really covers us if Chilwell is struggling. Romano has had the nod and the deal for him to join us is done, just the Colwell deal to finish up. It's like a war of words and Fab is going what he always done and confirming with here we go based on the agent confirming everything. Cucurella is a Chelsea player. If Colwill develops into a top centre back then buying him for less than £50m in a couple of years time will likely prove good value anyway. There's no guarantee that if he stayed here and only played 15-20 games that he'd progress in the way we want him too. If he goes somewhere like Brighton and thrives it's all worked out well. For now if he's helped facilitate us buying a very good player, and in doing so essentially driven down the net price with his own transfer value then that's a pretty good deal all around for us I think. Not directed at you in any way, but I'm pretty sure there were a lot of people who were rating Cucurella really highly on this forum at the end of last season and that we should go for him. Then when City looked like capturing him, again it was being talked about like a very strong signing for them. Suddenly we're in for him and looking likely to secure him and the feeling suddenly seems a lot more mixed. I think he could be a lot more important than people realise or think next season if Chilwell struggles to regain his form and fitness pre injury. Can still do a good job for a season or two until we have a younger guy trustworthy enough to fill in the striker roll for us. He did score loads of goals for us.
