Don't really see a need for Frenkie De Jong unless Jorginho leaves.

He's a good player but currently the midfield is stacked and there haven't been any rumors of players being sold so I don't see why we would be after FDJ?

Though it would be worth it just for the RedCafe meltdowns alone. 1330 pages and counting in their FDJ thread.

In the short term I agree but with Jorgi not getting any younger and potentially leaving next summer securing a long term replacement could be massive.

People were creaming themselves last night about Saliba on his debut. I think Fofana is easily the superior young Frenchman. Don’t care what we pay for him tbh. He’s going to become one of the best in the world within a few years.

As for De Jong, I still don’t buy our interest being so hot.

74 million euros, ie £62m for a left back not named Davies or Robertson (who is now in his last full sub 30yo season) or Theo

the most ever paid for a fullback in the history of football

only three before were even over £50m (Achraf Hakimi, João Cancelo, and Benjamin Mendy)

and that is on top of us spending the second most ever for a LB (Chilwell)

£107m for two left backs

wtf

Are you ever happy? 😂

I think if anything it's the club spotting an opportunity to upgrade the midfield department with a quality player and also get some planning in ahead of Jorginho's and Kante's contracts expiring in the summer. What we don't want is a similar situation to this summer in the defence where a position in our team is suddenly gutted by players leaving. There is a real possibility that both leave next summer, and I think their futures may hinge on how the first half of this season goes.

If either or both struggle for form and injuries then I can see the club moving on, and already having two high quality midfielders at the club in FDJ and Kova, alongside some of the younger talent we've been buying up or have here already may need us to only look for one replacement in the midfield rather than two.

With the world cup in the winter and introduction of more subs, etc this season, I don't mind having a couple of extra players in the squad to what we'd perhaps normally have - that might play to our benefit in the second half of what is almost certainly going to be a draining season.

De Jong would be a upgrade on Jorginho as well as a huge asset in the long term IMO.

Much much more athletic and has all the other technical aspects you’d expect from a potential great Dutch midfielder player.

Throw in his versatility too having played as a CB, a 6 and an 8 in various games for Ajax, Barca and Holland. Ok hasn’t worked great at Barcelona but he hasn’t exactly been poor either. Plus he’s played as a more advanced MFer as opposed to the role he’s better suited - where Busquets plays - and in a struggling Barcelona team.

People are obsessed with how much signings are in thsi forum lol

Who gives a fuck.

Let them spend.

You would all soon be moaning if he we weren't spending.

Above all else it should quell the worry or uncertainty post Roman that we'll have owners not prepared to push the club on.

Chelsea, as an investment for Boehly/Clearlake, etc, becomes a far more valuable brand and asset if it's successful.

I don't expect summers like this every year, but taking away the money aspect, the transfers so far have been very strong and if we did manage to also bring Fofana and De Jong in, it should go a long way towards making ground up on the teams in front of us and getting back to where we should be.

Definitely.

I will say though, if we do indeed bring in Fofana, FDJ and a striker, this transfer window would be seen to be in the realms of financial insanity. So I do understand a little why people may be concerned, especially when Barcelona are the result of such antics but from what I hear, the rules on FFP are relaxed to non existent this year along with our new owners having quite the wallet to fund these moves.

These kind of price we need to spend is result of poor organisation recent year. Last year we won CL and we only bring Lukaku. No decent cover for James/Chilwell, poor contract situation in defence etc. No we need to spend to fix those errors.

Our midfield is not good what are you on? And Jorginho is always a liability

Any improvement over this is alway good.

What I meant was that the numbers don't add up. There are already so many midfielders in the squad that for someone to come in, at least one has to leave. I made no comment on whether or not I think the current midfield is good.

And not only that with the 5 subs rule happening this season expect Tuchel to use it a lot. So a lot of players will get a chance.
