‘Double it’: Some fans react as their 25-year-old attacker is linked with Chelsea

Chelsea are being linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Adama Traore – but some Wolves fans on Twitter have responded by claiming he should cost a lot more than the reported price tag.

Well-respected journalist Matt Law, speaking on the London Is Blue podcast, claims that Chelsea do have interest in the Wolves speed machine.

It is understood that a fee between £20-25million could be enough for his signature.

Traore, who earns £46,000-a-week, is an extremely unique player in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old is unplayable on his day for opposition full-backs.

He can breeze past defenders like they are not there with raw pace and power that makes him stand out from the crowd. However, his final product is holding him back.

The right-winger is part of the Spain squad at Euro 2020 this summer, but has only had one substitute cameo so far in the tournament.

Traore is really effective for Wolves off the bench to frighten the life out of defences.

He’s someone that Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are looking at, which isn’t a massive surprise when you consider he can play as a wing-back or winger.

The Spanish flyer does look like someone that has never fully unlocked his potential manager, so perhaps a fresh change could help the ex-Barcelona talent.

Adama for 20-25m is acceptable. I think trimming the squad, especially the dregs. In all reality, we signed Werner and Havertz for more than 100m last summer. We can wait for the right targets like Liverpool did. I think the board is wary of buying squad players with so many on the wage bill.

It is clear we are after very fast RWB and rightly so. If we get Haaland or any other striker most likely Havertz and Mount would start behind him in this formation and they are not fast. James/Azpi also not fast just like Chilwell/Alonso.

So having two wingers/number 10s and two wing backs without any pace would not be smartest idea. I would include more Pulisic and CHO but not likely.

What is behind this new contract extensions for Michy last summer, Bakayoko now? Just admit mistake and let them go even for free, are board still hoping they will come good on loans?

I always start with the understanding that the board has more experience dealing with player contracts than I do. I then recognise that they have more information than I do about each player's contractual situation and options. I appreciate that the decision makers are not stupid and are capable of weighing the pros and cons of a sale vs a renewal and loan. Lastly, I accept that all of these circumstances make it inevitable that the board will make better decisions about these matters than I possibly could.

Thank fuck, Bakayoko has done us a favour by rejecting a contract offer. I wouldn't let him play for my sons team if he paid me.

I dont fucking get it man, why would we offer an extension ffs? Just finish it and let him go already.

As long as a loan club pays for the full salary and covers the remaining amortisation value as a loan fee, it makes perfect sense to extend if the player was willing to do it.

Bakayoko right now has a year left on his contract so amortisation value of €8M for next year. If he were to extend it would go down to €4M a year for the next two years which means the player is "cheaper" on the club's books and it would be more probable to find a club that pays for the full costs during the loan and then hopefully the same club would then take up the option to buy next summer.

Surely the transfer market hasn't fully gotten over COVID yet and most clubs (especially Italian ones) still can't afford to pay a lot for players but perhaps next year they could. If the club think loan fee + future transfer fee is bigger than whatever next-to-nothing fee they could get for the player in these circumstances it's only smart business to try to renew the contract.  Bakayoko however doesn't seem too keen so it's up to the club to find a permanent new home for him this year.

My tweeter feed has these tweets from the likes of Simon Johnson detailing all the talks we are having with Haaland. Jan might be a broken clock, but I think this is one of his two correct tweets a day… based on how much people thought we were in for Hakimi, only to find out later there were no direct negotiations. I think we may approach Haaland, but I think Jan is correct right now.
