Luiz in CM was okay when we're playing strictly on the counter (City, Paris, Spurs), however games we were expected/wanted/had to take the initiative (Roma, Leti) he was a horrible choice.

@tomo yes! Playing a cb (even good on the ball) as a cdm will naturally make a team more defensive. So only a good strategy against tougher opposition.

Doesn't change the fact that you're still having to hope the good Luiz turn up for the game.

The ONLY thing that even slightly irritates me about the sale to Arse was that we didnt get £17-20m. It was basically deadline day, they were DESPERATE, and we had him under contract for two more years, plus he was a returning starter at CB on the EL winning and 3rd place EPL side.

Notice all the big games in the 13/14 season bar Liverpool he played next to Matic though, someone who was actually disciplined enough to actually sit and be in position. Matics influence and what he gave the team when he arrived in 2014 to 2015 is hugely forgotten. He allowed Luiz and Ramires to recover and play higher up.

Except Naples in uefa, but Yeah matic rejoined Jan 14, so while David helped in a few games before, Jose was not a fan o mikel (can certainly relate), he only got comfortable along with matic.

the impressive thing though is the fact he never really switched to a midfielder on a diff training schedule. I noticed that he played quite a bit as a cb too.

He looked far more consistent as a midfielder tho. He had more poor games as a cb based on stats alone.

if memory serves, Luiz himself wanted to play as a cb, and refused switching to cm when offered. The current Brazil manager Tite, while managing corinthians (who beat us at wcc), was a big fan of Luiz in midfield. And apparently not as much as a cb.

btw, just watched the game. Luiz was good against spurs. The “clanger” you mean the bad positioning for the first goal, that left sun still facing 4 other arsenal players who still couldn’t stop the play? That’s a team mistake in my book.

That’s not he point, is it? It’s about letting klutz luiz leave in the situation we are in. You are fine with it, and I’m not.

I think it was yet another, of many, mistakes by lamps and his aides so far. Sure if he does not trust luiz as a cb, can certainly relate, get someone better as soon as you have an opportunity.

That decision left us with zouma.

Heh frank has every right to prefer a diff type of player. However, leaving us only with zouma, who also does not fit his playing style (Luiz is twice the passer tho), is specifically what I disagree with. Seemed like yet another rookie mistake.
