To potentially save a huge compensation fee if they have to sack Conte? Contract these days are just numbers. If the manager does well, they can just extend the contract. If not, bye bye. We also initially handed Tuchel an 18-month contract, before we decided to extend it after he won the CL. And Conte's contract with Spurs has an option to extend a further year anyway.
