The Mak 4,459
you don't get this versatility crap? Do you know anything about football at all?Having attacking mids is alright but they can't play up front barring possibly Schurlle, but having a striker who can do a job and one who can also fill another role is versatility, yes versatility.United are slowly losing their arse in this transfer window, negotiations with Thiago down the shit can, Fabregas basically knocking them back today, who's left? Jordan Henderson?I know what the fucking word means. Do you not understand we have an overload of attacking mids?! So who gives a shit if he can play as CAM? Mata can play there and he doesn't need to play as striker, why? Because he's so fucking good at being a midfielder! For me, that's impressive enough. And he's ten times better than Rooney at it; as will Oscar/KDB become a better than Rooney there but that's as long as some fat, injury-prone, aging, jack of all trades, master of none, tit isn't taking up their game time simply because he's 'versatile'. Those players can master those positions for the next 10+yrs for us, but only if they're allowed to. They won't sit on the bench forever. So sorry if I'm not wanking over Rooney just because he's English and can play more than one position.

Azpinator 2,325
He's got nothing to prove, he's won almost everything with Manure what would you expect from him really? RVP left Arsenal because wanted trophies, same case with Torres despite being shit and all. I'm against this transfer 100% not because of that but because I would hate to see him wearing our jersey. Screw being neutral about this.I'm sure he would opt for 22 to prove he is twice as good as Drogba. Or maybe 23 because he may feel he is #1 then 2 ..3 ! Or 29 because 2+9 = 11 ...the new drogba ! :Goober: Nowhere near funny, I'm sorry.

Most knowledgeable United fans e.g. a few of my mates are actually frightened at the prospect of Rooney at CFC. This isn't like Torres at all. We're not spending £50m on him. There's actually a reasonable price of £25m being quoted.

Magic Lamps 11,692
They might be different players but the pattern is exactly like Torres': big name striker, 27 y.o., epic years at a red-clothed epl team, last season was not really prolific, indicating decline, transfer request, injury prone in general, injured when signing contract, both strikers who started to play regularly early in career, hence the early physical decline...Of course the risk is not the same as with Torres, as Roo is mentally stronger and has adapted his game to his physical decline, but still the risk is there. It is not so high because of the price tag but because of the salary. So, in this case we can minimize it by giving him a shorter contract. Give him 3 years. If he performs well he still can sign for longer, but I doubt he will get his 240k per week when he is 30. And do not come up with: "Rooney is not that injury prone". Remember the 2009/10 season where he was really on fire. he was injured by van buyten in munich and could not play the title deciding encounter against us. It wasn't really that much of a hard tackle still the injury concern was so big, he, as their main player could not play in their most important game of the season, it cost them the title. Cech, Luiz and Cahill had injury concerns in the cl final against munich, all three played the whole match. FAce it, Rooney is extremely injury prone. it is not that he takes up bad injurys like Torres, but small injuries tend to take him out longer than they should...I somehow got a feeling this drama around him is all staged and Utd only want to get outrageous money for an almost finished player...like Liverpool got with Torres (it was brilliant business from them, getting 60m € for a player they knew was a wreck)

francozola 2,040
Personally, I would really like for us to sign him as I believe he would do well under Jose, but if it happens I hope we don't give him a contract of more than 3 years and/or include heavy performance-based bonuses instead of high wages in the final year(s) of the contract. The only reason we're still stuck with torres is because of his astronomical wages. Pizy 18,993
Obviously a sensationalized headline but true including wages and likely transfer fee.Rooney is one of, if not the most marketable global footballer, so making that money back in shirt sales and whatnot shouldn't be a problem.Everything seems to be aligning for us here. No other top strikers available so this is our chance to act and bring in one of the best players in the league in a position we need.Rooney & DDR and we'll be one hell of a squad. I may almost feel bad for some of our league opponents next season if these two signings happen. Almost.

Wavy Crockett 190
listen upman.dem.dont.rate.himfor £25M or whatever ridiculous figure United are going to demand he's actually more useful to us as an unsettling factor in their dressing roomgranted he stays, does anyone think he'll go on to have a great season at United? no so why should Chelsea splash a load of wonga to actually HELP them lot by taking an unsettled player off their hands??he'll turn 28 this autumn. Rooney is on the decline with question marks over his fitness and proneness to injury. he could have a good or even great season, especially with the support of what's shaping up to be a great midfield for us. HOWEVER so could a lot of other strikers as well, either players already at our club or other players who would be less expensive and better investments for the future than Wayne Rooney. in light of the aforementioned reasons..
