LOL looks like it is starting up now, not even mere rumors anymore. For 40m he could be our I think we can offload both Torres and Cech or Mikel.

Chelsea are weighing up a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani, sources have told ESPN.

The striker has been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge for some time, but joining Jose Mourinho's side would be dependent on a number of factors, not least Chelsea's need to comply with UEFA regulations.

Apart from already having exceeded the Premier League and Champions League quotas for foreign players over the age of 21 by one - with Didier Drogba taking them to 18 - Chelsea are also increasingly conscious of Financial Fair Play.

It is expected that Petr Cech could move on, however, and that purchasing Cavani would finally prompt the long-mooted sale of Fernando Torres. Furthermore, the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Everton, which brought in £28m, has freed up more funds.

Sources state that Chelsea have been quoted a price of £40m by PSG for Cavani and that the player is eager to move to Stamford Bridge, despite apparent public protestations that he would prefer to stay in France.

There has already been preliminary contact between the London club and the player's camp, although Chelsea are still assessing the best course of action.

With Mourinho having regularly complained about his forward line's lack of goals last season, signing Cavani and selling Torres would mean his attack has been completely overhauled, after the purchases of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba and departures of Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o.

From a tactical point of view, Cavani would also provide the type of pace on the break that Mourinho favours and that was sorely missing last season.

Cavani has endured a largely disappointing time at PSG, which is reflected in the apparent drop in price. The £40m believed to have been quoted to Chelsea would be £15m lower than the £55m he went to the French champions for last summer.

Ironically, one of Cavani's worst performances came in the Champions League quarter-final second leg away to Chelsea, but that has not deterred either club or player as he has often been played away from his best role.

Sources close to Cavani say that, in private, he is very eager for the move. Although he seemed to publicly play down any departure on Thursday, the very same comments also left the possibility of a move open.

"I am certain to stay, why wouldn't I be? I feel great in Paris," Cavani said. "I have a contract to respect with PSG. I'm calm. I prefer to be here. I feel good here. But as I have said before, it doesn't only depend on the player, but also on certain things that can happen at the club."

In that regard, the player's sale would also allow PSG to conform to FFP themselves, while still signing Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid. The French club effectively have to sell big before they can buy big again, so Cavani's transfer may actually set a number of moves in motion.

Manchester United have also been mooted as a possible destination - as they have with Di Maria - but it is understood that, so far, that is no more than the player's camp floating possible destinations.

I know, but somehow I got a feeling Cech will move on and at least one of Mikel, Romeu and MvG will no doubt leave as well so adding another striker would only depend on whether or not we can get rid of Torres.

I forgot Ramires in that list so in fact it's 19 at the club currently.

Would make perfect sense considering PSG's FFP situation and our need for a striker. It would be intriguing to see how Jose would deal with having two world class strikers fighting for that one position in the starting eleven. But let's remember that Jose had Benzema and Higuian at Real and he made it work quite nicely.

Costa-Cavani-Drogba could be devastating!! :blue scalf:

Someone was saying that Mourinho mentioned how he would like to play with 2 strikers.

So maybe that's in the cards of playing Costa and Cavani.

We could play something like a 4-2-2-2

Costa (Drogba) - Cavani (Schurrle)

Hazard (Willian) Oscar (Salah, Baker/Boga)

Matic (Romeu/Mikel) - Fabregas (Ramires, Van Ginkel)

If we manage to buy Cavani and sell Torres this could potentially be our best transfer window ever.

In - Costa, Drogba, Cavani, Fabregas, and Luis.

Out - A.Cole (free), Lampard (free), Luiz, Ba, Marin, Mikel (?), PVA, Lukaku and Torres.

2014/15 Costa, Cavani and Drogba >>>>> 2013/14 - Eto'o, Torres and Ba.

I'm not sure how we'd give Cavani and Costa both adequate playing time, not to mention Drogba (possibly Torres?) being here too. But I'd love to see the move happen...

Jose spoke how he can play with two strikers on the field if needs be. This all hinges (if it is to happen at all) on Torres leaving/loan. Cavani can play up top and play wide as proven at PSG, and whilst not being his favored position, he can play there thus fitting into a system Jose can use and also playing in a two man strike force.

Like I said, PSG maybe filthy rich but they have to meet certain restraints on themselves now and they want Di Maria, they want him badly but Cavani will be the one, if anyone, to be sacrificed to some what sanction this deal for Di Maria.

I think there's legs in this, or at least I hope there is.
