Nott'm Forest 0-1 Chelsea

I'm more worried about Maresca tinkering with the lineup because of his obsession with the conference league., rather than the referee. He cares more about his CV, than the club, so a trophy will be more valuable than a top 5 finish.

We might have already secured a top 5 spot by now if hadn't screwed up the lineup against Ipswich Town by resting key players, because of a dead rubber conference league game.

If James is on the bench again on Sunday, you know where is priorities are.

This is the thing. A lot of people keep going 'Well if he gets top 5 and a trophy he has done well'. However, they seem to forget he sent us out against teams like Ipswich and Leicester where we struggled - I mean seriously 1 point from 6 against Ipswich and scrapping a 1-0 win against Leicester at home is awful.

I am not ruling out us finishing 7th, losing to Betis, and being back in the Conference next season.

Absolutely. And Maresca doesn't care. Top 4 was never his priority. He changed his tune only midway through the season when he presumably got some PR pep talk from the club admin.

The way he prioritized dead rubber EC games ahead of PL fixtures in the final third of the season is enough of an indication for me.

And the fact that he's talking up the final and his relationship with Pellegrini bodes poorly. Have a sinking feeling that he's going to screw up the lineup for Sunday's game.

And agreed. Even if it's a trophy, winning the EC final is a poor consolation prize for a club that desperately needs more sources of revenue.

The ref won't come into it if we actually grow some balls and play how we should

You know this has a 1-0 for the home side written all over it.   They'll score in the first half, Nuno will have them play defensive and our players will be passing the ball around recycling possession for "stats".

ffs!!!!!!!!!!!!

🤬

We weren't going to beat Forest at their home ground, regardless of the referee.

Even a draw isn't enough, unless Villa forget how to play football at Old Trafford 😆

Newcastle won't lose at home on final day.

We aint winning this game. We will flop hard on Sunday and reality is going to hit the optimists in the nose when you realise we could be playing Conference League again next year and buying zero ballers in the summer market.

Imagine getting champions league also buying no ballers which we won’t, and getting embarrassed by proper teams all over Europe, embarrassing either way tomorrow goes most likely.

I’m oddly relaxed about this game. If we win and get UCL footy I’ll obviously be excited (perhaps naively) because it could mean better transfer targets and Championship League nights have been badly missed. But if we fail to win it’s not likely to change much in terms of targets judging by who were linked with.

Club cannot keep selling the hotels and women's team to itself. CL is vitally important with regard to avoiding accounting tricks. Additionally, reputationally too many years out of the CL means you become an Arsenal where 2nd becomes some sort of success.

Knowing targets are the same and Maresca is still here next season no matter what makes this match not so important.

I was thinking this too but it is so important though. We have the budget to build a squad for the Champions league and the league and Maresca or not, it is where the club needs to be right now

It should be abundantly clear what Maresca's priority is. That's the sort of mentality (one of a small club) that I can't stand, which is evident in his post match interviews, win or loss.
