I just hope they have a way to make it sustainable. If i had to guess it's looking like a similar plan to the early Roman years, spend our way to parity with the big two then focus on the sustainablity profit side of things once the success arrives which is where i'd guess the big money signings while still happening will be less frequent and we'd be looking at getting Slonina, Colwill, Hutchinson etc in the side. Hopefully we do that second bit better this time as we really stood still with squad building circa 07-10. Either way, it's a bit rich, IMO. Paying that much for someone that isn't of the level of Hakimi (he cost just under £60m twelve months ago) or such isn't great business. Hope he turns out to be a good investment, though. 1 minute ago, Magic Lamps said: k thx this is just absurd. Sorry we should walk from that deal. I agree, I think they'll try and spend quickly to catch up over this summer and next before looking to maintain that position. Remember that Pep spent around £400m across his first two summers at City to reshape a squad that already had a strong, title winning core. In theory so long as the club is successful, it should be able to sustain a transfer budget of roughly £100m each summer, which should be ample if used correctly to bring in one or two players each summer to freshen the squad up. I would say yes when it becomes blatantly obvious they can cope with the pace of the game. 5 minutes ago, Magic Lamps said: Pl proven is a myth but even with there are Tyrick Mitchel, Kieran Tierney and Rayan At-Nouri. at a stretch Aaron Hickey, Mykolenko, Angelino, Jonny Otto or Rico Henry. if we offered that moeny to liverpool for robertson, chances are they would take it. Being proven to cope with the pace of the Premier league assures less risk. I swear we had this same argument two years ago when people were advocating cheaper options in Regulion and Tagliafico over Chilwell. Tuchel so far has been faultless when it comes to the defence so when he wants his players in, you simply have to trust him. Of all those options at least 90% of them aren't good enough. Popular Post! JDY 1,290 Posted August 4, 2022 Popular Post! Share Posted August 4, 2022 I'm really happy with this. The price is a lot yes but its more cost effective this way (as opposed to selling with a buyback) if Colwill does what we all hope he will do. We get a really good player and keep another potentially great player. What I'm a bit confused about is many people branding it as an expensive 'depth' signing, or rotation. I don't know if its an underrating of Cucurella or an overrating of Chilwell but imo he's better technically, physically, and tactically off the ball than Chilly. This is pre injury Chilwell, we don't know what he's going to be like moving forward now. But apart from the goals he scored, I haven't really seen anything great about any aspect of Chilwell's game that has made me think he should be a mainstay in the starting 11 for years to come. I think he's a good player, but I think Cucurella will straight up be the first choice LWB now. Simply because he's the better player. Only drawback I can see from this is if Colwill doesn't perform well, Brighton have absolutely no incentive to carry on playing him as he'll be gone within a year. Fingers crossed he backs up all the hype. dimmas, Strike, Maravel21 and 3 others 4
