some of the most viscous, greatest warriors in history:

Sacred Band of Thebes

According to Plutarch, the 300 hand-picked men were chosen by Gorgidas purely for ability and merit, regardless of social class.[18] It was composed of 150 male couples,[15] each pair consisting of an older erastês (ἐραστής, "lover") and a younger erômenos (ἐρώμενος, "beloved").[19] Athenaeus of Naucratis also records the Sacred Band as being composed of "lovers and their favorites, thus indicating the dignity of the god Eros in that they embrace a glorious death in preference to a dishonorable and reprehensible life",[9] while Polyaenus describes the Sacred Band as being composed of men "devoted to each other by mutual obligations of love".[7] The origin of the "sacred" appellation of the Sacred Band is unexplained by Dinarchus and other historians. But Plutarch claims that it was due to an exchange of sacred vows between lover and beloved at the shrine of Iolaus (one of the lovers of Heracles) at Thebes. He also tangentially mentions Plato's characterization of the lover as a "friend inspired of God".

May be an image of text that says "The Sacred Band of Thebes an army of 300 men in 4th century Greece consisted solely of male homosexual couples, the idea being that soldiers would fight harder to protect their lovers."

Just want to add that I have absolutely nothing against gay people. I work in the arts so have many friends and colleagues who are homosexual.

I was making more of an observation.

20m for Aurier? WHAT!? Awful player.

Reports in the UK that we are frontrunners for Grealish. Doubtful but if it were to happen, wouldn't be against it, considering we could give them cash + Ross/Tammy.

Good news if it means we're close to Hakimi.

Feels a lot like last summer with Havertz. Lots of smoke and heavy links early and then things went quiet for long periods and then we finally signed him. Here, we heard a bunch about Haaland and Hakimi and now nothing for days. Probably won’t hear more for about a month until after the Euro’s.

Well the media is focused on that at the moment, furthermore I suspect with Håland the club would would to announce him (if we get him over the line; I am doubtful) at a time where it will garner a lot of attention to get the clicks in.

Hakimi wouldn't surprise me if it is done shortly. Only issue with him, is if there are players included then it may have to wait until they're finished up at the Euros.

Think the circumstances were different with Havertz's case last year. It was clear from the beginning that he wanted to go (even before the season finished), Leverkusen were open to selling him and we wanted him and then made the move to sign him.

With Haaland, the club are either still exploring whatever options possible to sign him because of the enormity of the deal or this all will peter out into nothing as they move to look for other solutions.

Either way, I hope the club don't try to drag this on like United did with Sancho last year because from what has been reported, Dortmund's stance seems pretty clear and obvious - they don't want to sell Haaland this summer and it will take only a mega bid for them to maybe change their mind. There has also been no noise from Raiola on this, although it can be looked at in two different ways. So either we are committed financially into making this deal happen (including paying bonkers wages and fees to Haaland, Raiola etc) or we just move on to other solutions. The new season starts in just under 2 months and pre-season starts in about 2-3 weeks.

Could see that being a bit of an issue. Alonso isn't everyone's cup of tea but I would argue when playing the likes of Burnley/Watford/Palace/Newcastle etc, he is more suited than Chilwell. I say this as he is much better at finding space and attacking the ball in the opposition box and we don't have to do much defending and when we do it is set piece defending which he is also better at. Of course if they make it equivalent to €25m+ then we have to consider it but I can't see us wanting to hang onto Emerson.

I'd drive Alonso to the airport myself if this is the dealbreaker for inter. Hakimi can cover for both wing backs + we would either keep around emerson instead or still could buy another half decent left wing back like Bensebaini. Also have heard good things about Declan Firth from the u23.

lol, we are plumbing new depths with these so-called football sites and their insane shoddy reporting on drunken yobbos gobbing nonsense on Twitter, which is then ludicrously fobbed off as 'news'

Surely we have to be the only one in the mix?

Spanish clubs broke.

Bayern ruled out.

Liverpool can't afford him.

United only have eyes on Sancho.

City and Pep allegedly only want Kane.

PSG don't exactly have a certified CF, so they could push for him if Mbappe is seriously considering leaving.

For less glamourous news I wonder who we will bring in as the new number 3.

Looking at the released list from PL clubs Wayne Hennessey seems the obvious choice.
