You'd wish he will stay here for 5-6 years like with Mikel his expiration date was something like 2011 but took another 5 years to ship him out.

Yep yep.

CFC aren't ruthless enough to first-team players.

Maybe the problem isnt in player but the club as a whole. Bakayoko was better in ligue 1 and not just because it was easier league. He was also better in CL. His passing needed work, but he dribbled much more and his defensive output was also much better.

Why? The confidence, the idea. Some players at chelsea simply dont recieve that for whatever reason.

In another club he will be a star.

Chelsea has absolutely zero clue on how develop a younger player unless he is already top class. Salah, Kdb, Lukaku, Bakayoko might soon follow that.

Tbh I wouldnt be surprised we sell him once and that to a rival and see him perform brilliantly.

Not saying he has same ceiling as those three, but certainly he is miles better than what he is showing here.

Agree with the second part of your post but not regarding Baka.

this is a common tale actually: he’s struggling with the pace of the PL. why? Well because he is not a very good player. He’s a bit slow (which is expected for a big fella) but his technique, or lack thereof, will always let him down in tight contests like today.

consider that he was rested midweek and his control was all over the place today. We are not even talking about passing goals assists, but basic stuff like just controlling the football.

one of the least technical players I’ve seen at Chelsea - so far he reminds me of mikel. Hope he at least improves to become a good player one day (for ‘great’ the ship has sailed).

mikel is actually a quality passer - just got moulded into a really unamibitious player. Bakoyoko is just a tall ramires with no top end speed. So pretty poor for this level

So much overreaction today from TalkChelsea. Conte's lost it, Hazard deserves better teammates and will definitely be leaving, Bakayoko is trash...

Just a couple of matches ago Baka was great against Man United. Think people have to remember that he's still young, still adjusting to a new league and new team, and he's very raw. Conte wanted to keep Matic around for these very reasons. So he could ease Bakayoko in and not have to depend on him as an every single match player. Last season with Monaco was his first breakout season, remember.

It seems like a lot of people here and even more annoyingly people in the media thought we bought a ready made, top class player who would be a level above Matic instantly. Can always tell when fans of other clubs and the media haven't watched much of us when they say how poor Bakayoko has been this season. He's had far more good games than bad.

Thought Stevie G was actually pretty spot on in his analysis post match. Bakayoko seems a little unsure about what exactly he's supposed to be doing sometimes. Because of that his confidence can take a hit like it did today and he plays poorly. This is to be expected. He'll improve with more and more games. When to retreat deeper, when to bomb forward, when to carry the ball or when to pass it off.

I think Liverpool are the exact sort of side that will give him problems in his early days here. He's not great when pressed or when he's got to make super quick decisions. Conversely, we saw what he's capable of against a team that lets opponents have more time on the ball like United where he was a constant threat and menace.

So he had a poor match. Oh well. Not a disaster.

he's 23 and cost 40m, he's not suddenly going to become a good passer, if he isnt already

Show Ramires a bit more respect please. He was an unbelievable finisher.

What does the fee have to do with Bakayoko's passing? As you alluded to, he's only 23 and there's still plenty of room for improvement. On top of that, passing is an attribute that can be improved on over time. It's not like pace or speed. Worth remembering that Kante was hardly great with his passing either when he joined us but after 1 1/2 years of emphasis and work with Conte, he's gotten better at it.

You know that’s the key disagreement I’ve always had concerning mikel. I happen to find a lot more likely that mikel just wasn’t good enough. Fabregas is a quality passer. Precision with range (mikel had no range in his game)... anyway mikel is gone and Bakayoko is now here just to remind us of him... :)

playing, including passing is just a lot easier, short, slow, and without pressure. Under pressure we get to see who’s who.

Take the game yesterday (against pool) for ex. Pretty uptempo at times where players werent given time on the ball. Playing quick and accurately, esp first touch is what defines top players in my book and Baka ain’t it.

you shouldnt be dropping 40m on players who dont even have average passing technique. When have technically poor players become gppd passers previously? oscar didnt, ramires didnt. He's been practising passing fpr probably 17 years, theres only so much a manager can do in this regard, conte can help him apply himself better, and improve tactically - but those passes are still going to skid out of play

Precisely. Kante biggest area of improvement has been his on the ball work and passing. He has become exponentially better since working with Conte. He singlehandedly dominated Liverpool's midfield yesterday even against their high press. He can now dribble past players and his passing range has definitely improved.

I think we can expect the same sort of development from Bakayoko after he has a season in this team. He's shown plenty of flashes of brilliance and plenty of sides to his game that need sharpening up. He'll get there.
