RamiCFC9 258
An excellent point. Mickey Mouse leagues like Portugal and Netherlands are always very accommodating for strikers and generally have slapstick defending. Which is why some of the best signings from those countries tend to be defenders (Carvalho, Vermaelen, etc.)- you need to be very good to look competent as a defender when your fellow defensive colleagues are rubbish.Cristiano Ronaldo,Luis Nani,Falcao they all left portugal with worse statistics compared to HULK. 1chelsea 864
And where does Ramires figure in all this?I'm worried that we are spunking our money on someone who'll turn out to be similar to Sturridge, selfish and poor in work rate. Now, those traits are absolutely fine in a striker, but not in a winger. If we sign him, I think we have to still look for a new winger and play Hulk as a striker.that is not true cos can play as a right winger

Santiago. 1,500
That doesn't change the fact that if you send a rubbish striker there like Afonso Aves or Heskey they'll be scoring loads. We should be looking at Hulk's European record, when he actually plays tough defences. And you know for a fact that if you send hasbeens to that league, your logic would indicate that they would be 'scoring loads'? Pizy 18,985
I wouldn't be so dismissive of Sturridge as some of you are. I have a feeling he'll be one of those players who has the potential to become a star and we'd regret letting him go.

Jype 6,398
portuguese league wow! (for all those who are already planning to curse me for belittling the portuguese league, i am not sayin portuguese league is bad but the english league is a whole other level in terms of competition)Most of the players who have come to us from the Portuguese league in recent years have succeeded at Chelsea and on the other hand Torres who had been banging goals in the Premier League for many years prior to his move has done fuck all so I fail to see your point. Of course he probably wouldn't be able to keep up with his stats at Porto but very few people on Earth could...

Any fool can score bucket loads there. The only Hulk statistics that haven't been inflated are his European stats:42 games, 15 goals, 7 assists. Decent, but not enough to convince me he won't be Sturridge Mk II on the wing.

Some players in the Portuguese leagues have yet to prove themselves more in Europe but a lot of them who have moved on to bigger leagues have been successful. Falcao, Ronaldo, Nani, Carvalho, Ferreira, Deco and even Bosingwa at one stage has been quite successful in what ever league they have moved to. Queresma failed though, remember his time in Italy? Couldn't get games ahead of a 36 year old Luis Figo....

(for all those who are already planning to curse me for belittling the portuguese league, i am not sayin portuguese league is bad but the english league is a whole other level in terms of competition)Take note that he is very good in Europe tooHe is kind of player, suited perfectly for PL. I dont think he would have any problems getting goals and assists in prem. For him, this wont be much challange because of attributes he has dont realy matter where you play.He will be still same strong and fast and he will have still impossible long shots even he comes to prem.
