The European Leagues & Competitions Thread V2

Another thing to note is that the "big 6" in England have wanted more power over decision making for a long time. The opposition to the 5 sub rule for this season always felt like a bit of a middle finger from the "lesser" teams across the league.

The Premier League model has been proven and the attraction of it as a brand across the world shows that it still holds significant value to these big clubs. They'll still want a piece of that. And the other 14 clubs will not want to lose that, because it's value and appeal will be barely a fraction without the big clubs. The harsh reality is the big 6 don't need the rest of the Premier League, but the Premier League needs the big 6 if they want to maintain their current revenue streams.

If the FA remove/ban these clubs from English competition, I think a breakaway version of the Premier League will almost certainly happen, operated by these six clubs.

I expect top6 to stay in PL but it is not going to be the same. If you are not in the title race and we saw that can happen after just 2 months of the season, games will lose value. No fighting for top4, top6 etc... All eyes will be on Super League.

Apparently UEFA are going to sue every club involved in this league for €60 billion? So is this €5 billion from each of the 12 clubs? Or €60 billion per club? Either way. Wow. Will see how many people think its a good idea when clubs worth 2-5 billion are hit with either 5 or 60 billion euro lawsuits.

Yes, eventually this will become normal. People in general dont respond well to changes. Even if it something small like Facebook changing design.

Roman can now build that stadium without using his own money.

yes but the fucking Home Office will not renew his visa

that is why he pulled the plug

Like @Magic Lamps said, these founder clubs and UEFA are most definitely going to reach a compromise. The latest ESL announcement is nothing but an opening shot. It's been a long time coming. Ever since Spurs and City started breaking into the top 4, the power players have been trying to protect their nest. FFP was one of the first signs. Now you have clubs like Newcastle also looking at getting foreign investment, to break into the elite circle that doesnt really want more competition. The one certainty in all this is that the current Champions league format is most definitely going to change.

What I'm more worried about is the timing of this announcement and how it could potentially affect our remaining games this season. Refereeing decisions, and the rest are all likely going to come into question.

I doubt that they will go to the extreme of docking points (not without warning at least) or kicking teams out of existing competitions, but this goes beyond that.

Will managers like Tuchel still want to be involved in something like this? Hope he and the team are able to shut out all the noise and keep themselves 100% focused on the remaining games., at least for this season.

Pre match conferences are going to be very interesting over the next few weeks.

and what will we gain by being lets say in the semi-finals of the super league? more money?

i, for example dont care about the money at all. so, since we will be out from the race for a pl champion in november, why would i care about the team until august, since if we are unable to win the pl, theres a decent chance we will not win the super league either.

for me, the super league will be on the level of the carabao or fa cup when speaking in terms of excitement and giving fucks. so very very close to zero.

This is how cartel bosses run their business.

Taken from James Corbett on twitter, who claims to have seen a copy of the "Super League Document".

  • The plan would guarantee massive income to a 15 club elite and cement financial gaps not only between those competing in the Super league and those not, but within it. The plan envisages one off payments of up to €350 million to the fifteen founder members, but only six clubs would receive the full amount with five of the initial members receiving just €100 or €112.5 million.

  • The 15 breakaway clubs have generously deigned to allow 5 merit based qualifiers each season. But the system is totally skewed against them. They have no say in running the Super League and are entirely excluded from a commercial pot worth 15% of income. Moreover, there is an 'equal' share of revenue that is not equal at all. The qualifiers are excluded from half of this pot of money (worth around €1.85 BILLION)

  • At the same time, the organisers have shown their contempt for rewarding sporting success. You get given a ton of money for playing (about €180m for the group stage), but prize money is quite small - worth perhaps €30m extra for winning it. Which is small change, really. If you win the Champions League, by contrast, you earn about €120million - or 300% more than just making the group stage

  • At the same time, if, say Leicester or Everton, were to qualify and actually win it - despite everything being skewed against them - they would earn around half the amount Barca or Real would be guaranteed JUST FOR COMPETING IN THE GROUP STAGE. Essentially this has been devised by a cabal of greedy, stupid and desperate individuals who care nothing about football, competitiveness or the sustainability of the game. It will kill domestic football and create a boring spectacle skewed in favour of a Super League 'big 6
