Reddish-Blue 2,510
Loving people who are saying we should get Lewan. HE WANT TO GO TO BAYERN ONLY, HE SAID IT IS HIS 'DREAM' CLUB just to let you know. I would love him here too but it is just not going to happen. Think he will stay at Dortmund for 1 more year then leave for free or join MU/Madrid this summer. He got no interest of joining us so it is about time we stop dreaming about him.As for Cavani, you can't say he doesn't want to be here. He already said we and the BPL are 'interesting', obviously his dream is going to Madrid like 70% of players playing in Europe today. The deal is only being hold up because that idiot president who want his release clause activated or we offered an overpriced exchange like Ramires/Ivan+£40-£50m which he can f*** off with. I think this won't end anytime soon, maybe end of June if Uruguay got knock out early. If worst come then I think we will probably sign Mario Gomez/Dzeko or some sort and settle for it which will be frankly quite annoying but won't be a disaster. Exactly. We offered Napoli quality players as well as cash for Cavani.I guess the president has every right to be greedy on this particular transfer..because Cavani is a special talent and he's their most important player. At the end of the day, it depends what Mourinho wants...a beast forward for 50 million or 2-3 potentially good players for 50 million.. BleedsBlue 1,549
I know 53m is a lot for a player but I am hoping that if we do get this deal done then Napoli use 15m to 20m of that 53m to buy Torres.

Leif 6,006
Ever since Roman bought us our strikers have not been consistently prolific. They've always been relied upon to bring much more to the team. It's not down to tactics, but just a mentality which has been instilled at the club. Everyone helps everyone. There's no place for selfish or glory players. Lew, Gomez, whoever - they all need to be scoring goals to contribute well.Lew seems to have this new 'thing' around him that he's a playmaker - defender - goalkeeper - as well as a striker, so if he's not scoring he can add to the team anyway. I disagree. He's only adding to the team when it comes to a quick pass then running forward to receive the ball back and shooting. That's this link-up play people talk about. A quick 'give and go'. Basically what Torres used to do loads at Liverpool. Aside from that and scoring, there's not much else to note.Cavani, as I've made a point of many times, does far much more for the team than focus on just scoring. He will get Hazard, Mata etc. scoring more; he will defend our set pieces; he will chase the ball down whenever it's near him; he will always be an indirect and direct free-kick threat; and he's not going to pussy out from taking a penalty like Lew did in the CL final. He has nerve.Contrary to what seems to be becoming a popular opinion, Cavani for any amount of money Roman can pay >>> Lew for £20m-ish.I'd rather have the very best for the very top price than 'nearly the best but not quite' for a more 'reasonable' fee.Everything about him just screams 'South American Drogba' - only more clinical with a higher work rate. How could you not want that regardless of fee? yuvala and ulsterchelsea

How could you not want that regardless of fee?You make some great points and I agree with most of them entirely. But one thing kept running through my head when I read this.....I'd rather have Wayne Rooney. Hard-working, big-game player, brings other players into the game, scored goals.....that obviously all has an asterisk based on fitness but they're roughly the same age and Rooney's price was mooted to be about £20 million less than Cavani. £20 million - that's Schurrle. That's probably a Mangala, maybe even 2/3 of a Varane. It's two De Rossis, or one De Rossi and one Van Ginkel. I trust the club to manage their finances and get value but £50 million+ for Cavani is terrifying.

But so is Rooney's when you think about it. £20 million...£50 million...either are massive outlays by the club no matter which way you spin it. I want the club to buy the player they absolutely want and they absolutely need. I don't want them to settle for Rooney just because he is £30 million cheaper. I'd rather an expensive cylinder go into a circle hole rather than a cheaper triangular pyramid trying to fit into the same hole.Another analogy, would you prefer the girl that is perfect for you even though he she has expensive tastes or the other girl who is nice and all has cheap taste, but doesn't have that special 'something' the other girl has?Not saying that Cavani is perfect and Rooney isn't, or vice versa. Just putting it out there they club might consider it in that vein. didierforever and Peace.
