Laylabelle 9,536
Pretty much what they said on the radio. Bringing back all these players is lovely but they lack experience in their roles. Then again guess gotta get it somewhere. Supermonkey92
Jase 43,479
To be fair, we already have a number of ex players working at the club - e.g. Ferreira, Cudicini, Hilario (is Eddie Newton still at the club?). We are just bringing back the bigger names for bigger roles, I guess.

So Lamps as manager, Jody Morris as no 2, Cech as I can't be bothered typing what his official job title is, Makelele back (who's hardly had a glittering coaching career ) some fans want Drogba involved as well. So a load of inexperienced coaches and let's be honest it smells of jobs for the boys are somehow going to steer the ship in the right direction just because their ex players Take Cech for example everyone is saying what a great decision it is to bring him back why ? he's spent all his career playing at the highest level has he any experience in buying and selling players or knowing the ins and outs of the transfer market no he doesn't. History dictates that bringing back ex players never works Ole at the mancs is proof of that and John Hollins put us back 10 years the cunt. I'm 100% behind Lamps but don't for a moment that bringing back ex players is some sort of Chelsea Nirvana. I don't think our younger fanbase know the meaning of patience so if I'm wrong feel free to post this as many times if things are great next season, if not just remember a young inexperienced manager is taking one of the most prestigious jobs in world football. I get your point but Cech's a highly intelligent man with a good knowledge of football, he is simply there to assist with performance analysis and advisory role. think he may have a say in recruitment too but he is not the negotiator so to speak, but then again Marina had never ever done anything of the sort before coming with Roman, and she is a good negotiator - have to get experience somewhere, and where better than your club. I can also understand the "jobs for the boys" line when it comes to Morris, Makelele, Drogba etc but i think Morris is almost a necessity if we plan to bring 3 or 4 youth players into the squad next year. Knows them better than most. Not totally convinced yet that Drogba or Makelele will infact return. I imagine Lampard will bring Morris, Jones and shay Given with him. Johnny Hollins was a total different era of course, although he did win the Full members cup in that epic v City lol bigbluewillie

If you asked any football fan about Hilario they wouldn't have a clue who he was to be honest I didn't know he was still at the club. Hilario is such such a nobody he's not even a household name in his own household.

I do understand the school of thought on what you mentioned ... I would not completely agree but I wouldnt say that you wrong with your thoughts on the whole ex-players thing. But i have a different angle to it, for me there is no right or wrong just a approach which could fail or succeed ... I have always stated that Lampard (or any of the ex players under Roman's regime) coming in will only hand one advantage over anyone else which is,that he would have direct access to the owner which most of the previous manager didnt have ... other than that he be like any other manager with very less experience. I do rate this advantage pretty high based on our situation with managers which is unique within PL unlike any other team. I also feel that the club is now trying to take a different approach by pulling people from the ranks and putting them into management (something which should had been done for our youths) ... Getting all these ex players and giving them such prestigious opportunity with a club like Chelsea is a huge risk and going by history they are most likely to fail but then the question also arise with the transfer ban & our best player gone & a depleted squad & a big layer between manager and the management which world class manager would take up the role. So taking a new approach could change the thinking of the club and if it doesnt, we always have the money comes to our recuse. I dont think it is an issue with younger fanbase ... it is more to do with the time that we live in where the sports have become business ruled by the men in black and success at the top is only measured by wins. So we might fail with the current approach but it is a risky take on our situation and I would want to ride with it.
