Plus, Ekitike is very poor in physical duels and has played his worst matches against teams that sit in a low block. On the other hand, Delap is physically excellent and outstanding at holding up the ball. The stereotype that he can only play in transition is also laughable—probably because he plays for Ipswich and didn’t really have another option? He’s still a product of City’s academy, which is based on possession play, and he’s mostly played against low blocks. He also gets his shot off very quickly (his ratio between first touch and shot is very good and fast), and he doesn’t overdo the number of touches to prepare a shot (like Jackson or Ekitike). I’m not saying Delap is "the next big thing," but he’s certainly not that much worse—if at all—than the other players mentioned. What gives me optimism is also his similarity to Vardy—he’s a tough, relentless player, which might be exactly what our team is lacking.

Ekitike is not worth more than double compared to Delap.

I’d argue Delap is the more effective and impactful player right now anyway.

Shitting on a player who banged in 12 goals on a shitty, shitty Ipswich team is bizarre. Ekitike is playing on a well oiled offensive team and has 3 more goals… in a way worse league.

3 more goals...and more assists.

I think they're both quite raw as players and not reliable goalscorers yet, but I can still see Ektike at least link up with the team meaningfully and contribute with his dribbling ability.

Don't think he's worth the current price tag, but I'd choose Ekitke easily over Delap.

And of course, a proven goal scorer over both of them,.since Chelsea have none currently

I just think the rest of the buys are a risk at their prices. Delap for 30 mil? No brainer.

Also I can’t be the only one that sees him as a bit of a baby Gyokeres? Similar strengths and play styles imo. Gyokeres looks dog shit at headers though.

If Delap stinks it up, it’s 30 mil and easy to recoup. Especially on homegrown talent.
If Etikite sucks we look like idiots spending 90 odd million.
Same with Gyokeres.

I remember people on here telling me Morata finally gave us a proper finisher. I remember being one of the people saying Lukaku would be beast this time around. The list goes on for forwards we have taken turns being wrong on.

Salah was value for money. Haaland too. Isak. I just don’t see any of these guys as sure fire studs like Haaland so it’s not worth the risk.

The thing is we sort of need a goal scorer that does big numbers, because without Cole being a big time goal scorer we just don't have the numbers in the side anymore. So we need to go after someone who can realistically get us 20+. My ideal scenario would be going hard and signing both Delap and Gyokeres and then we have the opportunity to maybe move NJ to left wing and suddenly maybe we have goals back in the XI and on the bench too. Being totally stacked up front and moving on anyone that doesn't turn out to thrive (either to a new position or out of the club) is what the best teams have always done.

That said I don't know if its financially realistic although getting back into CL and playing CWC will surely help. And we need to keep enough budget to sort out GK and at least 1 excellent CB.

Fair point about the price tag. 30m is far easier to recoup in comparison to the other target of 90., and I don’t think Chelsea with its current squad can afford to take a massive gamble on a striker with question marks.

Morata and Lukaku oddly started off well. Both of them. Shame their attitude couldn't live up to the expectations. Both were pretty weak minded., and that's unfortunately something you can never be sure of with modern footballers.

if delap is a NJ replacement I think thats ok but we need another player

True if he is Jackson replacement it's a great signing but him being the main striker for next season would be a joke.

yes both delap and Nj are short to be our main CF, but they are two second good options

I believe that NJ has a lot of market and we can recover the 40M that we invested in him

I think the red card against newcastle was his sentence at our club

The thing about Nico Jackson is that despite a lot of the fanbase not fancying him and wanting him moved on is that Maresca loves him. Same thing with Madueke and Sancho. I just can’t imagine the club selling Jackson or Madueke because within the club they’re still viewed as potential stars.
