anyone can post the full article?

Chelsea have ditched their tentative interest in Cristiano Ronaldo following talks between head coach Thomas Tuchel and co-owner Todd Boehly.

The possibility of Chelsea making a bid to sign Ronaldo was raised when Boehly met the forward’s agent Jorge Mendes in Portugal after which Manchester United were informed of his desire to leave.

As reported by Telegraph Sport, Boehly was always clear that he would not try to sign Ronaldo without first receiving the blessing of Tuchel.

The pair have now discussed the subject and it is understood that Chelsea will not bid for Ronaldo, having completed the signing of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

Boehly had been briefly intrigued by the prospect of making a move for Ronaldo, but has backed away following the talks with Tuchel, who is understood to want the focus to be on his team rather than one individual.

The signing of Ronaldo would have also taken the attention away from Sterling, who Chelsea’s new owners and Tuchel see as a marquee signing for the club.

United have maintained that 37-year-old Ronaldo, who has missed the club’s pre-season tour, is not for sale with a number of overseas clubs unable to match his wage demands. Reports have claimed a Saudi Arabian club are willing to offer him £105 million a year.

Chelsea could still look to add to their forward options before the transfer window closes, but the immediate priority is to strengthen the defence.

Kalidou Koulibaly will link up with the club on their US Tour after Chelsea agreed to pay Napoli £34m for the 31-year-old, while the club remain in talks with Manchester City over a fee for Nathan Ake, who has already agreed personal terms with the Blues.

Tuchel ideally wants three new central defenders, with Presnel Kimpembe, who he managed at Paris St-Germain, targeted. If Chelsea are successful in landing all of their defensive targets, then captain Cesar Azpilicueta may be allowed to leave the club.

Azpilicueta wants to return to Spain at Barcelona, but has been told he must wait to find out his future while Chelsea attempt to sign new defenders.

Boehly has promised Tuchel as many as six new players this summer and Chelsea will also look to add a new right wing-back to their squad to help provide cover for Reece James.

Chelsea will offer new contracts to James, Mason Mount and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy as the new owners also attempt to re-balance the club’s wage bill.

Other than working on the squad, Chelsea will announce the arrival of former Manchester City executive Tom Glick as the club’s new chief executive and he will take charge of all non-football operations.

Chelsea are also still talking to candidates over the director of football job, which they hope to fill in plenty of time for the January transfer window.

Ronaldo would’ve been interesting but also a risk that was probably not worth taking. If he wasn’t such an egomaniac and was fine being rotated regularly I’d have taken a punt. But he basically forces the manager to start him for every game.

so if Chelsea will look for a reece james backup, our defense will be like this:

reece (backup) | Thiago, Chalobah, Ake, Kimpembe, Koulibaly | Chilwell (Emerson)

This?

Think so.

For me this would be a squad that should, if it stays fit, be able to solidify us in the top 4. But I can’t see it worrying City or Liverpool over a 38 game season.

Not enough goal scoring and not enough individual magic that can see us to 3 points if games aren’t going our way. We still don’t have that one go-to, super dependable attacker like all our rivals other than Arse do.

Not good enough to what, compete the for the title? That was never the goal. The goal is to finish comfortably in the Top 4, win a trophy and go hard in the Champions League.

There is no one available that can improve our attack. I do agree we need to bring in an extra body in midfield.

Drop some cash on Barca and get De jong to sort midfield (Match Man Utd's accepted bid)

He would be more than willing to come to Chelsea given we can offer CL

Don't think we were ever interested.

Think Tuchel wants a midfielder with Defensive capabilities + Offensive.
