We have already done so! Two staring CB’s have gone. Alonso and Azpi are two extremely simple deals to wrap up as both want to go to Barca. And what’s annoying is that we’ve known all of the above for months. Since literally January we’ve known that all four of those players were seeking new challenges and wanted to go. So what have our club been doing in the months since behind the scenes? Look at Liverpool. They probably didn’t find out that Mané was going to ask out until right around the CL final. Before they even sell him, bang, they identify Nuñez as his replacement and sign him up early for huge money. Rüdiger and AC have had their heads and 1 foot out the door months ago. And yet no new CB’s have arrived yet. The sanctions and takeover are being completely glossed over here. It's too easy to think that the club can still operate in the usual way in the second half of last season with its scouting and recruitment. If it were just sanctions in place and the expectation was these would be lifted by the summer window then I could understand but we've been taken over by new ownership. How are we realistically supposed to plan signings and lay any respectable ground work on deals if we don't even know who is going to own us and their ideas, outlook, budgets, etc. It's impossible to do any meaningful work with agents, etc with so much uncertainty at the club. Even when Boehly was made preferred bidder the deal wasn't a guarantee, look at Derby now. He wouldn't have been prepared to spend huge amounts of time on the recruitment side of things until he's confirmed in the door. We bought 5 or 6 new signings through the door 2 summers ago so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we can do similar this summer. Give it chance. I fully expect some deals to fall into place over the next week or two for the club. King Kante
chelsea_4_eva 1,182
De Ligt would be a dream signing for me, just love his character.. and could potentially be the heart of our defence for many years.

ZAPHOD2319 4,818
I am getting the vibe we will do another one year loan of a player that won’t work in our team for £97M on the last week of the window! laura90
Superblue 6,372
I think people need to just be patient with the whole situation. Every transfer has different circumstances and complexities so it's ridiculous to point to one team making a signing and questioning why we haven't. As I've tried to highlight I'd rather get the right signings than any signings. If this takes longer in the window then so be it. If it means "making do" in a couple of positions because those targets won't be available until next summer, then again so be it. We've seen with so many transfers over the years how much a panic buy can set us back. The only true time we can assess our transfer activity this window is at the end of it. We can all speculate and argue about potential interest in players but it's silly to just write this summer off entirely until we know the makeup of the squad at the commencement of next season. laura90 556
I have just read that last season we spend 28 mill on agent fees. Since we only signed Donkeyaku if true, we spent about 140 mill on him plus wages which makes it over 210 mill not 185 as I thought. Literally entire Hazard money plus bonuses on donkey. Who decided 200 mill on 29 year old striker who failed miserably, to the point being ridiculed, at United is money well spent? Who the hell, I can't grasp it still. And if that lunatic-optimist is still around I wouldn't be surprised if he expects we can regain top four status if we just get our loanies back. Agent's will be paid on contract renewals too, and the likelihood is that some deals will involve agents paid their 'cut' over instalments or the length of a contract in the same way players are paid signing on fees. Those agent fees won't entirely be on Lukaku's transfer.

ZAPHOD2319 4,818
Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa all had their transfers lined up and ready to finalize the first week of the window. I am not buying that these deals take an incredible amount of time and we just started speaking to clubs and players after the sale was complete. If so our people that handle transfers need to go. Our recruitment people, if there is such a plan had months to put together a plan. What were they doing all this time? Haaland and Alvarez with Kalvin Phillips and Cucarella soon to follow. Tottenham are close to finishing up their 2nd and 3rd signings. City have a higher FFP ceiling and more money in any case. They also have a manager who, probably more than any other, top players are eager to play for. On top of all that they have a reputation for a playing a style that potential recruits find appealing which is certainly not the case with us. Footballers simply find City a more attractive destination so, along with the money, it is far easier for them to land their targets. They aren't working any harder than we are. Quite the opposite probably. Edited June 16, 2022 by OhForAGreavsie

Tuchel will have had lots of names and ideas in Marina’s/Cech/whoever handles these things’ hands for ages. Just like Conte had surely long since studied and identified the weak areas he needed to plug at Spuds and just like Gerard did at Villa. Tuchel will have told them we need “this, this, and this.” Clubs that we’ll be competing with will have made 3-4 signings each before we make even 1.
