If Bayern want him, they will probably get him for free next year. Their pull on German players and the ability to just call free dips on them whenever they want is what has sustained that club for decades. Pizy 18,966
It’s actually kind of insane that we’re so far into the window and are not even close to bringing in any cover for either wingback position. It’s as though the club hierarchy just assumed they’d be able to bully Lyon into letting a key player come back to us and had no other plan in case that didn’t work. How many more times do we have to see Azpi and Alonso get torched down the flanks before we do something? It’s probably going to happen again tomorrow with Lamptey. We going to wait until deadline day and panic loan some shit player? Vesper

Speaks volumes of the boards footballing intelligence that they don’t think twice dropping 100m on a lazy over the hill striker but are too stingy to spend anything on our most important weak spots Vesper

Not all, but most. The rest of the squad looked great but were missing an elite goal scorer. Lukaku was the best goal scorer available. Haaland was impossible and a player like Vlahovic was probably seen as too big of a risk coming off of 1 breakout season. Not as though there were 5 great options and we chose Lukaku. We could’ve waited a year I suppose, but Tuchel and the club clearly thought we were right in the cusp of being a title winning side but needed to act right away by getting a striker immediately. It's not hindsight though. Me, @King Kante and others called it. Nothing he has pulled so far has surprised me, from his disappearing acts in big games to highly inflated opinion of himself. blues.bridge

blues.bridge 343
we clearly need to cut out some deadwood, why we don't start to do it in this transfer window? at least 2 of them could be sold or go out right now: barkley, RLC, ziyech. In the summer we will think to the others. like buys we need 1 striker, and 1 or 2 wing or number 10) My ideas could be: adeyemi joao felix and maybe dembele that is on free. Also frank de jong would be amazing.

I definitely do remember you and others being against the move. But almost every top pundit, former player, and the people who covered him for a living all agreed that it was a great signing at the time. There’s a reason we were a popular pick for the league title and I remember Neville saying he’d be top scorer. A lot of evidence suggested that he was a good fit. But there was also evidence that he might not be and that has turned out to be the case.

Pundits are just generally lazy, listening to them talk about it their train of thought was basically "he's the poacher who finish what they create" without realizing to accomodate him you take out an integral piece of the creative puzzle. Us fans (and i include myself in this as the Arsenal and Villa games sucked me into wondering if i was overeacting) should be ignored during the honeymoon period of a new signing, what will piss you off after a year is spun as a positive in the early days. They just looked at the numbers and immediately thought he will just slot in easily and we will become perfect instantly. It's the same mindset that the board also seem to have when it comes to signings. And the same Gary Neville has turned around and said Lukaku now looks like the Lukaku of Man United just two weeks ago.
MoroccanBlue 5,385
It's no surprise the majority of those pundits failed as football managers. blues.bridge

At least 50% of the forum were against Lukaku while I among others have always called for Alonso’s sale. When we failed to get hakimi, who would have been huge given out I juries, I we were not in the market for an alternative again and now stand here with the same problem again. I genuinely believe that if you put a selection of fans from here in charge of the footballing side of only scouting and transfer decisions alone we would probably not have a worse squad.
