But White is also a lot more expensive than 4 times CL winner, 3 times LaLiga winner and World Cup champion.

Varane's wage will surely be more than double than White will get at Arsenal, making him the more expensive player overall across 4-5 seasons. And that's even before taking into account White's potential re-sale value in the future. Re-sale value might not always matter for the big clubs aiming to win trophies, but for the financial side it definitely makes a big difference.

Varane is definitely the better buy for United because they need a proven player who will straight away improve their starting XI for a title challenge and should still have at least a good 3-4 years in him, but Arsenal are getting White with the intention of either having him a crucial part of their back line for the next 10 years or get a few years out of him and then sell to Man City or whoever down the line for an even bigger fee than the one they're paying now.

Completely different type of transfers, you can't really compare them.

Aside from his size isn't Koundé supposed to be really good?

He's the same height as Azpilicueta (1.78m) so obviously a back-3 can successfully have one CB who's not all that great in the air. He's also taller than Reece James who many were campaigning to play at RCB in case the club signed Hakimi as wing-back, so why's Kounde's size all of a sudden some huge problem? I could see some problems with having two fun-sized defenders in the back line (Koundé together with Azpi/James) but having just one smaller player is a non-issue, as long as the other two are good and strong enough to compete in aerial duels.

Mendy in goal gives us a lot of leeway aswell.

I would tend to agree with this if we stick with a back 3. Not so sure if we wanted to play a back 4, however (I haven't really seen enough of him to make a judgement) I have read that he has a very good leap on him and he does have a good success rate of winning aerial balls.

Short for a CB for sure, but as mentioned a week or two ago he’s built like a tank and is excellent on the ball.

If we do buy him I’m not really sure where he plays this coming season, though. Unless Silva’s game time is much more limited to keep him fresh.

Fabrizio hasn't mentioned the price for Kounde. Man City bid 55m euros last year and it was rejected, contract is till 2024.

This is 50m on a position we don't necessarily need to strengthen.

Either Silva or Christensen won't play for sure, Kounde will occupy the RCB in a back three.

I barely watched Kounde so I am not going to say anything about his abilities. But speaking about height, in 3 atb, one CB being shorter is less of a issue.

Walker just played it for England and he is 178cm. Azpi the same. Reece just a bit taller. D Ambrosio played regularly for Conte and he is 180cm. In 3atb, one CB being shorter and with pace is almost advisable.

It would be a issue with regular formation but even there you have example of Barca dominating Euro footy with Mascherano 174cm and Puyol 178cm.

Kounde as RCB with Chris in the middle and Rudi LCB would not be a issue at all.

This is what I said 10 days ago so yeah, I am not concerned about height.

Also I expect him to play only RCB in this formation. So he will share minutes with Azpi. Not sure what will happen to James tho?
