The Tuchel Thread

From the Guardian article

There were instances of the ownership attempting to foist players on him. Example was the case of Anthony Gordon who Tuchel did not want. Boehly’s data analysts had pushed for the Everton midfielder after being impressed by some of his performance metrics. Tuchel came to feel he had too many players to accommodate and not enough he could count on.

Based on the sound bytes...we're in for a rough ride. The new ownership seems to be so imposing on the manager. Just days after talking charge and already burning bridges.

Who would want to coach a team like this.

For all the talk about supporting Tuchel, they seem to be hypocrites.

No wonder the team chemistry has been poor. It starts from the top.

Yeah someone who knows nothing about football was never sold on Tuchel, crazy if actually true.

TT is his own problem 250+ million spend and 6 games into the league we look mid table at best. The way the team players and performs the book stops at the manager always has done. I liked TT but he made it very hard for himself.

The key words are "never sold" if this is true Todd isn't sacking him based on turgid football and results lately but because he never liked him.

The "If why and how" is irrelevant now it's done and I got one ain't wasting my time crying over spilt milk, if I'd of given a manger 250+ million of players and watched them 6 games I'd of sacked him n all, easy for us to sit here and judge.

David Ornstein saying that Boehly was doubtful about Tuchel from the start, but left him in place because of a certain stability during transition period.

This to me is a problem.

And it's probably what the players sensed too, making them down tools so easily

What all of us wanted from the end of last season was some continuity and stability with the new ownership.

In the span of months he has tossed out a lot of the admin and now, the manager which was the only piece of identity remaining from the old regime.

And he has allowed the club to bring in more B grade signings.

Amateurish. Just like his decision to give KK a 4 year deal.

No disrespect to Graham Potter.

His team play some beautiful football at times, punching above their weight to win against big teams, but some managers do well at mid level clubs and fail when making the step up.

It's not really about coaching ability, but it's about personality.

Managing a bunch of egotistical millionaires is a whole different scenario.

There's also the incredible irony that we loaned Colwill, and sold Gilmour to Brighton to be managed by him. Gilmour must be feeling twice fucked by the club.

People need to consider the greater scope when they claim the player's have downed tools.

Imagine playing out of position in a system that doesn't get the best out of your ability, week in week out. Your confidence is shot. This game is far more mental than physical and its no surprise why the likes of Pep and Klopp have sustainable systems. Confidence is soring high with these players yearly.

All well and good but not playing well and not trying are two different things. Totally different.

I didn’t see a team that wanted to fight to win last night, they basically rolled over and accepted that the game was done when the game got scrappy and that is something that has been labelled at this team before under Sarri, Frank and now Tuchel.

Zagreb didn’t win because they outplayed us completely as we did create chances in the second half, they won because they actually tried, they ran, they won tackles, made interceptions etc you know the basics that this team has been criticised for not doing too well periodically.

It is clear players have downed tools for whatever reason. Completely clear. If you don’t believe me, go and watch Hakim Ziyech’s highlight reel back. The guys performance was absolutely piss poor and exactly what people claiming that certain players have downed tools are going on about. He couldn’t of cared less. Mason, Kai, Kova are a few others who again were anonymous and piss poor from every aspect of the game.

Would of seen more effort and fight if we put the u23s out v Dinamo last night.

This is what gives me pause. If these players buy in and give their all to Potter he can transform us. We have the talent in our squad. But if some of these big name, big reputation players think they’re “above” him, this could blow up and crash down in flames.

If he can get a couple of early positive results it could go a long way.

Let's me honest we have had a wagon full of mangers with "experience" with big name players and it's ended exactly the same way for every single one. Let's try something different with a great coach experienced coach.

This talk about the players might not respond to Potter, if you watched the game yesterday, they were just standing around so they surely were not responding to Tuchel. I don't see Poch being any better.

It is also quite silly to say that Boehly knows nothing about football. It probably means people that say it know nothing about his past and his level of interest in the game.  He is fan level for sure, but you would need to be blind not to see the woeful football that was being played at the end of last season and this season. Nicking a goal to win games when the entire focus is defense is terrible. Add to that our defense has been terrible.

Wonder how Gilmour feels, especially if Tuchel ends up at Brighton ..🤨 (my money is on Leipzig) .Auba probably wishes he wasnt so shot shy yesterday or chose to use his justified sick note.

Leipzig will announce Marco Rose soon.

If the players buy in and give their all. That shouldn’t ever be an if but thats the problem here.

We have guys in the squad who have CL winners medals, for some of them perhaps undeservedly based on their careers here and what they’ve done in the game and what they will have achieved when their careers finish, who will inevitably sour on another manager if they don’t play or get tough with them or sulk because they don’t want to be here.

So I’ll put my neck out and say it, Graham Potter when he’s appointed will last a maximum of 12-18 months, get sacked when we hit a bad run or when the owner wakes up on the wrong side of the bed/has another bright idea and it will be the same again.

If Boehly didn’t want to keep Tuchel he should of just said to him at the end of the season, told him he wanted his own man, brought in a manager who fit his new direction and given them a full pre season and the signings they wanted. Then they’ve got a clean slate, a man they wanted In place and they can build their infrastructure up and around them as well as giving the new guy some time to actually put things in place.

In terms of his first big big decision as new owner, the signs do not look good and thats without mentioning he’s cleared out a whole footballing infrastructure, hasn’t replaced it and now has sacked a manager he didn’t want to keep because he was too arrogant or stupid or whatever to get rid of him in the first place, who he had initially said he wanted to give him more job security and responsibility in terms of recruitment etc as well as input on how the clubs infrastructure should be.

Confusing, isnt it?
