Nobody will pay 60 million for Jorgi. Only Sarri was willing to. I think 30 to 40 million for Jorgi is a fair price

We bought him for 57m €, so after 2 years, we would have 34m€ of his value on our books. So I feel literally anything upwards of 35m€ should be enough to simply get him off our books.

Just not good enough, never was, never will be.

Yep, I think getting 35m€ would be good enough value.

Would be just enough to write him off the books, freeing up 11.6M€ a year in amortisation and another 6M€/y in wages. Overall 'savings' of almost 18M€ per year and not to mention having extra funds (the 35m€ fee) to pay new transfers with.

If Lamps doesn't want him anymore it makes sense to sell him, even at a price little bit lower than his market value. But not sure who in Italy can either afford or need him now that Juve is out of the question.

True. Hopefully the roma rumors are actually legit.

This is double accounting. If we spent that €35m on recruitment it would bring with it new wages to pay, and a new amortisation to be accounted.

I think what @Jype meant was that selling jorginho would firstly give us funds to buy (let's say Declan rice), as well as free up wages and amortization fees.

Yep, exactly what I meant. In these current pandemic times most  clubs don't have the cash reserves to buy players because they need to ensure they have enough to cover all running costs (wages etc.) so obviously having an extra 35m€ lying around in the club's bank accounts would make many things easier. Of course all new signings would still go on the books for amortisation and wages and that's where freeing up 18m€ a year from Jorginho would come in handy.

Anybody who watched the 8-2 game last night and still believes a player like Jorginho should have a future here is nothing more than a trolll. He has zero athleticism, snail pace and can't play through a press. He is a complete charlatan who belongs in the backwards Serie A.

He can play through press much better than majority of our other players.

In this two minutes video you can see how he did very well but Barkley, Giroud and Mount destroyed every possible attack.

With Kai, Timo, Puli and Hakim here next season, Jorginho can be essential player again.

But I respect also if we go other direction and go for Rice but to sell Jorgi with no players in for this position would be very stupid because he is our best option as DLP.

I agree that he lacks athleticism so I would suggest him to do Goretzka.

Yeah I can’t help but feel Jorginho with our attacking options next season will cause serious damage up top.

No one denies he isnt good midfielder. Problem is with him as holding midfielder, we dont have midfield when defending. Our backline is poor and Jorginho is no better.

I dont think he is as bad as people make it out. He isnt that super creative midfielder that will be racking up chances every game, but more of a man before that man.

That said, he is realy poor when holding the backline. Any stronger or quicker players just stroll past him on regular basis and break the midfield, that has been the standard for a while now.

Edit: just checked out PL site, Jorginho is 4th now with 16 (kdb 32, maddison 19, buendia 17). I guess he was 2nd then, but sky made a mistake...

I see the ranking look like among midfirld, or depend on sky definition of mid.

The most interesting numbers are imo from your last image. It doesn't show the player, it show the difference in team playing style.

Rodri 20 interception, jorgi n ndidi 56.

You can also use

Jorgi 10,fabinho 5,rodri 4. Albeit from smaller sample size.

Jorginho agent confirms Miralem Pjanic swap offer from Juventus to Chelsea

“Juventus had offered a swap deal including Miralem Pjanic, but the English side didn’t take it into consideration. [Juve sporting director Fabio] Paratici never called me.”

“Would he have moved to Juventus with Sarri? I think so.”

“He has a three-year deal with Chelsea. The market is long, it will last until October 5. If Chelsea were to think that he is no longer part of the project, I would find an alternative solution. Last year he played 40 games for Chelsea and is an important member of the national team.

“So far we haven’t received any official offers. He is followed by many clubs and there aren’t many players with his characteristics in that role.”

Good post.

I have to agree with Chilwell, Werner, Ziyech and Havertz (closer now) coming in, particularly Werner and Havertz, should raise Jorginho’s game because the movement will be much better off the ball and hopefully look to get in behind more. Ziyech as well is also going to be a huge player for him, coming between the lines to receive the ball. Really think selling Jorginho would be daft still.
