Blue Gino 377
After the season is over, and after this WC, I understand Mourinho's tactics last season. He is a winner, and he needed that pragmatic approach to win with that squad. He will never start a season thinking about winning the next one.Our squad is not good enough. Simple. From defense to attack. Our defense: Cahill and Azi. Midfield: Hazard, Oscar, William, Hazard, Schurle; Attack: Torres, Etoo. All of those players are overrated. Those players are not winners. They lack the leadership mentality. They might be great in the future, but they are not great yet. Even Hazard is not even close of being as good as the hype in this forum suggests, he is not a player carrying the team on his shoulders, he is part of the mediocrity. Terry, Ivanovic, Cole, Cech and Luiz, who left, were the only players with winning mentality in this squad. Players like Fabregas and Costa, even tough I'm not a big fan of both, will only improve the team's mentality. This is the kind of player is needed, the team is full of "promising" players, but we need more than a u23 squad to be a winner team, and there is no better manager in the world to build a winner team than Mourinho. One major problem is FFP, and Jose just can't go out there and get a bunch of super stars anymore, especially with the ridiculous transfer clauses out there. He will never start a season thinking about winning the next one.True. I think he even said that to Chelsea tv ? That he was considering moving away from the intended approach and wanted to move to a more pragmatic approach as he feared we otherwise wouldn't make CL football. Think it was after we conceded 3 goals against Sunderland but not sure. Our squad is not good enough. Simple. From defense to attack. Our defense: Cahill and Azi. Midfield: Hazard, Oscar, William, Hazard, Schurle; Attack: Torres, Etoo. All of those players are overrated. Those players are not winners. They lack the leadership mentality. They might be great in the future, but they are not great yet.If we get Costa and Luis i disagree. Last season we were struggling on a couple of positions due to a lack of quality. Striker, midfield, left back but with the transfers of Matic, Fabregas (Costa and Luis) we've solved that. The players you mentioned are young and a bit inexperienced but saying they aren't winners is extremely harsh. They lack experience at the highest level yes but there is only one way you gain experience. You don't need 11 leaders in the team. 2 or 3 will do. You just need to make sure they're all focused on reaching the same goal. Even Hazard is not even close of being as good as the hype in this forum suggests, he is not a player carrying the team on his shoulders, he is part of the mediocrity. No Hazard hasn't carried this team for the entire season but there have definitely been periods and moments last season where he did carry this team.Yes he needs to do it more and be more consistent this season. No one is arguing that but part of the mediocrity? Come on now.Terry, Ivanovic, Cole, Cech and Luiz, who left, were the only players with winning mentality in this squad. Players like Fabregas and Costa, even tough I'm not a big fan of both, will only improve the team's mentality. This is the kind of player is needed, the team is full of "promising" players, but we need more than a u23 squad to be a winner team, and there is no better manager in the world to build a winner team than Mourinho.I really think you mean experience instead off "winning mentality". Yes it's pretty clear, especially with our choice at left back (Luis), that Mourinho is looking to add more experience to the team instead of young potential.Honestly i agree with your main point that we need(ed) more experience in the team but why do you always have to be so negative about our current players.A lot of the players you mentioned so negatively are gonna be part of that new core that is going to have to drive this team to succes for the next decade. Our income will increase this year thanks to new CL and PL deal (right image). Something around £330M.

Chelsea Legend 11 4,062
It's not an exact formula (nothing ever is) but the dots are still there, even from his time at Madrid, he showed up in Manchester sliding around on his knees in a suit. There is enough from his two spells here, at Inter and Porto to piece a theory together. You sir, have far too much time on your hands. This is embarrassing. Chelsea Legend 11 4,062
We were also extremely lucky last season i.e games against westbrom (H), Villa (H), Liverpool (H) (Eto'o should have seen red) and numerous games where we played very poorly and just about manage to win or draw. That 82 pts flattered us big time.Aguero was/is City's best striker and his absence to injury coincided with their barren spell in terms of goals. also Toure,Fernandinho their two best MF were also injured. The impact of those 3 players would be noticeable in any team and while there are no guarantees, it doesn't hurt to make logical deductions. So what are you saying exactly? If Aguero and Kompany were fully fit, City go undefeated? Football games aren't played on paper sadly. And to that I'm not at all scared of City, they have a fantastic squad but so do we! We also had key injuries throughout the season and absolutely no clinical striker. I'm not banking on us returning to the summit this year but I am also not ruling it out because of what City have. I read the bulletpoints at the start of the article and realized it's text wrapped around pictures, not the other way around. Pointless shit.I would like to add that by spreading those links and clicking on them serves their purpose. The click-based commercialism that online journalism has sunk to, has done no favours to press quality. It's literally got to the point where quantity > quality for them. It hurts the subjects, the minds of the impressionable (most of the younger readers) and since media of any kind is the biggest window to the world, thus shaping our cultures, it hurts the society as a whole. It even hurts the journalists, because instead of pursuing their ambitions and doing what they thought they would be doing when they first enlisted for college, they are instead forced to produce shit to feed their fat cats.I know of a case where sports journalists for a "reputable" Estonian newspaper use a pseudonym to write "sports" articles, because they are too ashamed to use their real names and risk being publicly affiliated with junk journalism and have their careers destroyed because of it. But the editorial board insists on these articles, because they are major click magnets for obvious twisted reasons.
