The Mourinho Thread

Mourinho is the drama queen and he has brought his drama back to Chelsea combined with the dull football. The most interesting thing about him is not how he sets his teams out to play but what he says in the press room. Guardiola once said he was "the fucking boss" of the press room. Now no trophies for two seasons and he is as bitter as ever. He has thrown Torres and Ba under the bus, made disparaging comments about an African legend in Eto'o and has now very harshly criticized Hazard. Of course he's done it all to hide his shortcomings this season. Or is it "I made eleven mistakes" or "my players lack balls". Always someone else's fault.

He has every right to criticize his players but he should do it in training or in private and not in a press conference.

It's sad because in this SAME press conference, Jose was quick to protect himself from criticism about his mini-trophy drought by going on a very long (prepared I'm sure) rant on his nearly misses and relative (one season really) success at Madrid. But yet, he had no problems throwing his star player under the bus, as if Hazard hasn't improved that side of his game greatly (Mourinho's words) . That's no way to represent your players. It reeks of "self", "me first and me alone". He cares more about his legacy. His scathing reaction to Wenger's "fear to fail" comment were very telling on reflection.

Note : This is not "I hate Jose" or "I want him to be sacked" no, this is simply stating an unpopular opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. Jose needs to change his attitude.

Yeah but we still play terrible football when comes to attack and won no trophies. Sometimes, you make your team win ugly or you try more open, attacking football and ib few years, trophies come. Mourinho was "protected" for playing such defensive tactics because he won everything. But recently; he still plays same tactics, our team is terrible in attack (might even lead to players leaving) and we dont win anything (not that I would demand trophy this season but still).

I hope Mou implements at least bit more attacking football, or better; make our attack play with some patern, sense and efficiency.

I always said either you play ugly but win trophies or play nice football and maybe in few years get those trophies too. We arent closer to any of the two.

The question is can he?

I think since he just all but unofficially confirmed our signing of Costa in his press conference I think now it is title or bust. He got his world class ST and Mid he demanded with Zouma as CB back up. So if we don't win the title next season we will be looking for a new manager.

What did he say about costa?

Basically when asked if we are interested in him he said yes and all the press in Spain are confirming it is a done deal so I say baring a Willian style last min deal with Spurs he is going to join us. Usually he rules out rumors straight away but this time he confirmed it.

Mourinho asked about trophy drought: "I'm going to tell you something about my career...In 2010, I reached the maximum of my career, I won everything. This is the maximum. In the first season, I won the cup against the best team in the world, I finished second to the best team in the world, and lost SemiFinals to best team in the world. then we won the league against the best team in the world, with all the records.. We lost in the semi0finals of the CL [against Bayern] when two of the best penalty-takers in the world missed penalties. Bad.. The next season, we beat Barca in all the big matches, and lost the CL SemiFinal by one goal.. In my fourth season, I go to CL SemiFinal, I fight for title until last moment, so these are four bad seasons of my career?... I got wrong by doing year after year like nobody else did. You arrive into a level where finish second is not good, SemiFinal not good... I'm guilty of that [being judged by higher standards], and I'm proud to be guilty of that''

And please stop with the "Jose is never wrong" sentiment all the time. He is not the founder of the club or a god. He is not Roman. He's a great manager and a Chelsea legend, but he needs to have a rethink of his behaviour if he plans to stay here "forever".

Mourinho is never wrong.....

I talked about it in the Hazard thread but since it's not really the topic for that I'll repost that here

I have thought about this all the season it just a " what if " so take this post accordingly please.

If you compare player like Ronaldo/Bale/Drogba and Messi/Ronaldihno/Zidane even if they're all great I would easily call the laters " genius " thanks to their sense of the game etc... In my opinion you can't raise people like that, only give them adives/hints and leave them -almost totally- free on the field anything else would just shackle them.

On the other hand you have Mourinho who is up there as a coach thanks to his tactics like everyone knows and looks really prideful about it. He doesn't look like someone flexible either. He did raise Drogba but as I said before there's something fundamentally different between those kind of players. To get to the point I'm under the impression Mourinho can't acknowledge there's things in football that can trascend tactics.

I repeat myself it's just a feeling.and one possibility along many others so take this post accordingly.

To explain further my thoughts : I said it in the Hazard thread already but I really do believe Mourinho is a great coach but there's always something people are good at and others they aren't ofcourse. So what I was thinking " Could Mourinho be the kind of coach the kind of coach that is more at ease with average up to really good player than with stars players ".

In the case I didn't use the right words, it's by no means a trashing or anything I'm just really interested to hear your opinions on this ( Sorry if this has been discussed already I couldn't bring myself to read 744 pages of comments :o )

Mourinho is a genius. Hazard said some things that were true as well. Neither are wrong.

Genius ? I really don't think so. Again I think he's a great coach, arguably the best ( I don't have any opinion about that ) but there wouldn't even be a shade of doubt about him being the best was he the genius some people think he is. People use the word " genius " way too lightly in my opinion.

If you think Eden Hazard knows better than Jose Mourinho when it comes to setting up a team (or if you think you know better than him) then there is something fundamentally wrong with you.

I guess Jose was right, there are too many football philosophers out there.

So what I was thinking " Could Mourinho be the kind of coach the kind of coach that is more at ease with average up to really good player than with stars players ".

Probably you have a point, but - he made Ronaldo a better player by making him work more for the team, he moved Ramos to central defence and got him to be one of the best at the position, got Snejder to play the best he ever did, got Deco who was by then by popular opinion unreliable and fading away when something didn't go right to perform consistently, got Ibra to work, got Benzema to work...

I think his issue is more not with the players who are stars but with trying to implement his "team first" philosophy. There are bound to be players who can't cope with it.
