👕 Chelsea Kits Thread

Still mind blowing that a club of our stature has struggled for months to find shirt sponsors. Both front of shirt AND sleeve sponsors, apparently. You would think massive companies from all over the world would be clamoring to have their logo on the shirt of one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world. One who plays in the most viewed league in the world.

It’s even more puzzling because Boehly and Clearlake know all about marketing and branding having worked with the Lakers and Dodgers who are all about star power, Hollywood marketing and branding. You’d think they’d surely have companies calling them begging to have their logo on Chelsea shirts.

Yesterday I got sent these photos of the iridescent logo in the sunlight.

I feel like the "90's aesthetic" may be mostly appealing to people, who weren't alive in the 90's 😂 Those logos remind me of fake shirts and pendants with Nike logs and cannabis leafs during seaside holidays. Would be passable had it looked anything like on the render above.

Also it looks like those logos may weight quite a bit, so I could see the match kit being more flat like the Nintendo render from previous page.

I was alive in the 80s and I love the home and away kit.

Most of people seem to like on twitters and facebooks actually. I think I'd be fine with it if not the airmax logos, but mostly the white part that somehow makes it looks less noble imo and reminds me of some of worst Adidas-times kits. Kinda gives off the Leicester/Brighton vibe. If we wanted the "retro", they could around that blackout (blueout, lol) anniversary cup kit that almost everyone liked and looks somewhat more refined to me. Still it remains to be judged with shorts and sponsors, as now it's more a Megastore shirt than proper football kit anyway.

Btw I actually smirk a bit at that whole 90's comeback and young people dressing like this - I guess it hits the childhood sentiment for some, but I remember it mostly for misery, tackiness and envious looking at people in the west, who had opportunity to, well, live like humans. Meanwhile I vividly remember the need to look behind your back and brace for fistfight every time you'd leave the house after 16, as some shitheads would always love to take away from you even the very little you had then.

I actually liked the the Stamford Bridge Roofing kit era marketing bit more - straight outta Cobham, Chelsea thing, embrace tradition, but not on the straightforward "everything goes retro" bandwagon. But I guess we'll get used to it like every other year anyway, just hope they'll do something interesting for GK kit and not just slap some pink-white stuff and call it a day.
