Sheva. 5,373
Atletico Madrid want to reward Fernando Torres with the club's highest honour when they go head-to-head with Chelsea in the Uefa Super Cup.The two teams meet in Monaco on August 31 and Los Colchoneros are keen to finally offer the striker the accolade of the insignia de oro y brillantes, something they have wanted to do since his winning goal for Spain in the Euro 2008 final against Germany.Atleti had been keen to hand Torres the honour when they played Liverpool in the 2008-09 Champions League group stage, but he was injured on both occasions. The club are now trying to organise a way in which they can present the award to their former captain, but it may prove difficult due to the limited amount of time the two sides will spend in Monaco for the match.Since their original decision to award the 28-year-old the commendation, he has won a World Cup and another European Championship with La Roja, as well as the Champions League with Chelsea. After submitted an official petition, Los Rojiblancos are waiting to hear back from Uefa over whether they have been granted more tickets for the game at the Stade Louis II Stadiumhttp://www.goal.com/...h-award-at-uefa

Blu4Lyf 46
Why? You think it'll be a Drogba-OM type thing?

manpe 10,861
Why? You think it'll be a Drogba-OM type thing?Something like that. Or Torres-Scouser, like @daBlackMamba7 eloquently put it. I want to know what people think about it. At the moment our only real alternative would be Sturridge, but he's at the Olympics for god knows how long. HRiver 1,512
I know I've said this once, but I like how the vast majority of the fans have no faith in him. And this is exactly why he will shock everyone this season. The season he joined we had very few creative players, then next season it was AVB with his revolution. This season it will be him up front with Hazard, Mata, Oscar and Marin supporting him from behind/the wings, and this season will without a doubt be his. Popular Post! Spike 12,049 Posted August 9, 2012 Popular Post! Share Posted August 9, 2012 I've had a titful of people saying that Torres would score goals if we did this or did or that or if he played for this team. When I see him play I see a guy that is afraid of shooting, afraid that if takes a chance he will miss and I believe there is not much that can change that. He struggles when he plays for Spain and they have Xavi, Alonso, Iniesta, Mata, Navas, Pedro, Silva and Carzola. Two goals against Ireland and one against 10 man Italy just doesn't convince me.Not only that bit he drops deep and drifts out wide too often and tries to dictate play and hold the ball up. He practically plays like Emile Heskey - a striker that is afraid of being a striker. Instead of taking a chance they will either pass or try and dribble into a better shooting position (which more often than not loses the ball). Torres is far more talented than this, he is still rather quick, has good ball control and first touch, good finishing (when he does finish). So why does he try to play like this? Why will he come good? Because the squad is stronger? Why does he need other players to make him better? If he was so great in the first place 1. He wouldn't need the best team in the world to score and 2. He wouldn't have had a two year period of sucking. He lacks the strikers instinct. capriccioso 2,545
Yep, he's finished. First off, he was never that good unless the entire team was absolutely dedicated to doing nothing else than getting goals out of him- probably because they had no other choice but to play like that to remain competitive (hi Atletico) or because they relied on a nucleus of players and had very little in striking depth (hi Kopites).Though recently I've had a spate of calling people shit before them responding with incredible performances, at the first possible occasion, making me look a fool. Now I've said that he'll probably score 4 goals in the Community Shield. Peace., Las7 and Spike
