David Luiz

no not an agenda at all - as a brazil supporter I actually think he *should* move to Barca; that would be good for David, Brazil, and esp Barcelona!

As a pre-abra Chelsea supporter, I am 100% sure that Cahill is not good enough to start for ANY top club in the world. It's just his technique or there lack thereof. I couldn't care less about his commitment. Championship is filled with players who give 100%. The Irish give 110% in every match and they lose every time. Barca look like they couldn't care less (like David) because they use their great technique far more than they use their physique, but that would be the wrong impression to have.

Two things.................... Cahill may not be the most gifted defender in the world but he has shown more commitment to our cause than Luiz this season. Cahill dont go "walkabout" Luiz has been found wandering about this season. When he becomes more disciplined he will regain his place, otherwise it's Cahills spot to lose.

Secondly...............Yes the Irish do give 110%..BUT WE DONT LOSE EVERY TIME MATE !!!!!!

Fair enough ... please don't take it personally - this whole thing about winning and losing is a lot more about population size, GDP, focus on football, and far less about the empirical things we like to talk about. in fact, being that big of a footballing nation hasn't really helped Brazil in any way - it may actually have hurt its development or so some believe.

On technique, quality talent... Back in Brazil there is a southern announcer who says when a poor side is very committed and motivated (for whatever reason) before facing a far better side, that they are going to lose all the same - with or without the extra motivation and commitment.

I guess Belgium are especially committed these days; the fact they have Hazard, Benteke, KDB, and host of other extremely talented players probably isn't a factor at all... :) The answer is also socioeconomic as usual.

Cahill probably switches off twice as much as Luiz during games.

Can you give me a couple of examples SeB? I know that Luiz is a far more gifted and intelligent footballer than Cahill, but that counts for diddly squat when you keep making schoolboy errors. I cant fault Cahill in his last few matches and he sticks to his position. Luiz, on the other hand is a fantastic talent, but would be a much better Defensive midfielder than an out an out defender. At least as a DM if he goes walkabout he would have defenders in position (like Cahill ) behind him. Dont get me wrong, I really love Luiz but he just needs to tighten up his game, then he would be unreplaceable.

Cahill went walkabout in the opening minutes vs. Basel, lost the ball cheaply leading to Basel's chance from the FK. Luckily Cech had a decent game.

Luiz as DM is a myth, he's nowhere as good as at CB. Only Benitez's fanclub can dare pretending Benitez "invented" Luiz's new position whereas he rather only had the choice between putting the boots himself or field Luiz in midfield

Well, our choices haven't improved in the midfield dept. quite yet. But he is definitely a better CB.

Cahill can't cover his full back to save his life, constantly out of position because he's ball-watching. Loses his man in the box (just like Luiz does, but Luiz has a lot of actual world class defensive abilities). Passive defending all the time, could retreat back on 30 yards and end up in his side's net without ever making the first move

Points taken and well made, though I was not in Benitez's fanclub I still would like to see Luiz given a midfield start. If he does get his place back in the centre of defence I just feel he will really have to raise his game and his level of concentration to stay in the team. We all know he has it in him, but we need to see it.....and soon
