Magic Lamps 11,692
Let's not fool ourselves. It is never about "love" in professional football. He is a legend because he scored an unbelievable amount of goals, had an incredible number of great performances and won us a load titles not because he loved or pretended to love the club some much. He might very well have developed some affinity to the club, which he displayed e.g. by his friendly and honest communication with the fans and staying here despite offers from BArca, Real and INter. Yes he milked it and got a big contract by flirting with those clubs but that contract was no more than he deserved. But in the end his carreer and also his personal benefits were more important to him and that is totally fine. When you have been at a company for 10+ years and now your contract ends and you get a better offer from a rival company, you'd probably take it too. The ones outraging about Lampard joining another club have probably been deluded by some imaginations of love. Love is seldom found in football. You, he is not the first club legend to join a rival club after they got no extension. He is a goal machine and a winner, which is why he is a legend and he has continued to be so and we seen that from the other side now. He has never been disloyal to us. Infact he has been loyal to us as long as he was our player. 13 years is a long time in modern football. He will return to the club, because he is a legend and will be loyal again. IN truth to most players football clubs are companies, employers. People very seldom love their employer, even if they have performed well for them for over 10 years. If you're going down that road you will have to be more specific about which type of job and role you are referring to. Popular Post! stroey 2,525 Posted September 24, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted September 24, 2014 Lampard is not Lampard for me anymore. He's just an ex Chelsea player who performed really well for us in the past and gave us good memories. Football is so popular because there are people like us, the fans, spending time and a lot of money to engage with the club and players. Without the "love" aspect football could be quite a boring game. On paper Lamps did nothing wrong but from the sentimental point of view, he made a mistake. Maybe a strange comparison, but if your best friend get into a relationship with your EX wife AFTER you divored with her which you loved very much, is he wrong? On paper not he did not betray me, but I wouldn't feel the same for him anymore. The friendship is damaged and so is my love for Lamps. lionsden, De_ChrapQaa, Ainsley Harriott and 8 others

Beepu 1,714
People comparing this to a real life relationship betrayal is exactly the problem. Not sure why people are taking this so personally like he killed your family.Relax fellas, go stress over some real world problems for once. I feel abit disappointed that he went to a rival as well, but the way some people here are talking really made it seem like they are crying and cutting themselves while typing. So big decisions like these would probably be made by ourselves if football were that much more serious than entertainment. Again, it doesn't reduce the disappointment of the situation but it should really reduce the liverpoolness of this thread to be very honest.
